Brilliant Solo Debut! September 23, 2006 bobbyjoe88 (England) 23 out of 24 found this review helpful
If you are expecting a mini Black Eyed Peas album, then leave now. Yes, Fergie is perhaps the most well known of the four members, but this is not another crazy BEP joint.
br /
br /Fergie, along with executive producer will.i.am, have built up a collection of modern soul, pop, hip-hop, rock and even reggae tracks. I guarantee there is a track for everyone.
br /
br /For those of us who can't muster up the energy to read the whole thing, skip to the bottom for a summary :P
br /
br /The CD starts off with the funky RB Fergalicious. Besides the bland title, a fast paced dance track with clever raps from will and Ferg. It moves seamlessly into the sugar sweet Clumsy, in which Fergie explains how she is in love with a man, over an unmissable but cheeky interpolation of "The girl can't help it" by Little Richard.
br /
br /Next up is the relaxing All That I Got, with strong vocals, and soft ad libs which wouldn't sound out of place on Mariah Carey's latest offering. Following that, is the popular London Bridge. Hate it or love it, you can't help yourself dancing to the beat.
br /
br /Next is the sexy Pedestal, which contains an eerie line to the tune of "London Bridge is falling down...". My immediate thoughts where that this would not sound out of place in a musical, with Fergie Ferg's powerful vocals. Next is the cheeky Voodoo Doll, with brass instruments blaring out with Ferg's fast lines.
br /
br /At the halfway mark, we have Glamorous, perhaps a little basic with Fergie spelling out the title for half of the song. Nonetheless, a very smooth and sweet song, with clever rhymes from Ludacris. Following that is another rap track with will.i.am. I remember pre-release that will wanted to "Use her [Fergie's] voice as an instrument", and he has done just that. Quirky ad libs, but with a reference to the dreaded "My Humps".
br /
br /Next comes Velvet, a relaxing piano soul track, with Fergie really using her voice for what it was intended: sexy, smooth, efforless lines woven into a fabric of calm beats and jazzy piano chords. Consequently is the emotional Big Girls Don't Cry, where Fergie pours out her heart, and decides to get over her ex-partner. This is where Fergie's Soul persona really shows.
br /
br /Coming in at the 11 mark is Mary Jane Shoes, featuring Rita Marley! A sweet reggae track with a perfect sample of No Woman No Cry, by the famous Bob Marley. This song really lets Fergie use her voice to the max, but sadly, to confess her love of a pair of shoes. Aside from that, she sings it perfectly, and breaks into a fast paced rock beat for the remainder of the song.
br /
br /Nearing the end now, we come across the stirring Losing My Ground, with just audible violin chords and guitar strings. Slightly reminiscent of the Pussycat Dolls' "How Many Times, How Many Lies", with the vocals, and perhaps something from Rihanna's latest album.
br /
br /Finally, Finally. Well, not quite. The end of the album, for some. A beautiful piano ballad with Ferg telling us about her childhood dreams. For those with the bonus tracks, we still have two more tracks!
br /
br /Put Your Hands Up IS another fast paced, crazy dance track from the whole BEP crew. Throw ya hands up! is repeated over and over, with all members contributing bullet fast raps. Now, the best has been saved to last! The highlight of the album, which came as a surprise to me, not being a fan of rock! Fergie's attitude is portrayed in her wild vocals, and the violent bass guitars in the chorus! The final track left me wanting more, and for those patient enough, leave the track playing to find a hidden track. Nothing too interesting though, a jazzy piano song to calm us down at the end.
br /
br /And there we have it people! The end has come. :( Sad as it may be, the only thing you can do now is to buy this album! Or, buy the tracks on their own online.

Fergalicious September 18, 2006 Stuart Osborne (cambridge, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very BEP, and very good. a bit mellower but just makes you wanna dance. Funky songs with roots in a multitude of different style from Ska (voodoo doll), 1950's rock and roll (Clumsy) to motown (here I come). A wonderful array that makes it hard to pick a favourite (maybe big girls don't cry, maybe mary jane shoes or losing my ground) but always leaves the desire to listen to it all again.
br /My only gripe is what is it with "London Bridge" - it's "Tower Bridge" that goes up and down and heavily featured in the video! That over looked - bring it on!
the best- buy it November 17, 2006 M. Howarth 5 out of 9 found this review helpful

br /if i were you i buy it now!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazingly good! September 14, 2007 Oliver Waldron (England) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thought the Black Eyed Peas were great, until they split up (or have they, i'm not sure?) and when I heard Fergie would be having a new album out on her own i thought it would be a rubbish solo coming from a good band. I was wrong. I think the Black Eyed Peas wouldn't be the Black Eyed Peas without Fergie. Of course I love Glamorous, Fergalicious, Big Girls Don't Cry and London Bridge.
Get Ready, Here Comes Fergie!! September 15, 2006 Mr. Merge (Uk) What can I say? The Dutchess of RB has polished her tiara to a high shine, put on tartan, told us how her London Bridge wants to go down like London London London, and given us a great sounding, great looking, greatly collaborated with album!
br /
br /First off - Fergalicious : definition make them boys go loco! What can I say bout this song? If you like My Humps, and that kick-ass attitude that Fergie demonstrates in that song, you will LOVE Fergalicious! This track, like many others on the album, features Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas.
br /
br /Clumsy is the follow-up track to this, and blends in well with the end of Fergalicious. Clumsy is a song about falling in love, and is quite catchy, a bit slow at points, and quite fast and loud - what more can you want from a song?
br /
br /All That I Got (The Make Up Song), this is a slower song, and is about one of Fergie's ex-boyfriends (!!NOT JOSH DUHAMEL!!) and the simple message is to look past the physical aspects, and when you do, she'll give you all that she's got, and love you with all her heart and soul.
br /
br /London Bridge - oh SNAP, oh SNAP, oh SNAP - you ain't ready for this! Great sounding, funky, just... great vibes... bizarre song to be honest, but love the end. It ends with two cockney guys talking about Ms Ferguson, and even attempt to sing a line of the chorus - comic humour! LANDAN LANDAN, LANDAN!
br /
br /Pedestal is Fergie's attack on the haters. For those that don't know, when she joined the Black Eyed Peas, there was a big uproar from some BEP fans, saying that Fergie's made them change and become crap, basically. So this is her attack on all the nasty things people, especially on the net, say about her. This song is great, love some of the lines, and the very beginning, and somewhere near the end, have this great bit where Fergie sings, to the tune of London Bridge Is Falling Down "your pedestal is fallin' down, fallin' down, fallin' down, your pedestal is fallin' down - down, down, down, down..." sounds a little creepy, but I like it!
br /
br /Voodoo Doll is... well, it just is! It's about voodoo dolls, and crystal balls and following other religions, and even turning into a devil... bizarre but oddly catchy and FANTASTIC!
br /
br /Glamorous has got to be one of the least faves of mine on here, it features Ludacris, nothing wrong with him, but I'm just not too keen. Think Gwen Stefani - Luxurious, only... better, in some regards, but a little weak.
br /
br /Here I Come - it uses a great sample of the Temptations "Get Ready," and features Will.I.Am...
br /
br /Velvet... hmm, I like it, but there's not much to comment on really... apart from Fergie nearing climax at the end, but... that's about it really!
br /
br /Big Girls Don't Cry sounds VERY like music for the end of a film... some great lines in here, very sweet, young love, type of song - obviously drawn on some of her life experiences, because I don't think kids nowadays play "jacks and uno cards".... do they?
br /
br /Mary Jane Shoes - featuring Rita Marley and the I-3s... reggae sounding... slow to begin, but then it changes the tempo and it's a fuel-injected, rock style, crazy version - great song, but who is Mary Jane, and why has Fergie got a pair of shoes like her's?
br /
br /Losing My Ground... small background info - Fergie went through a time, before BEP when she was doing drugs (crystal meth in particular) and this song is obviously a direct reference to the bad points in her life "who am I now, where does it end, how did it all begin...?," "is that me up in the mirror, cos I thought I was somebody else, well it's a realization when you find out you don't wanna look at yourself." Great track, great lyrics, very emotional obviously, but this just goes to prove how versatile and... great an artist she is, she can vary her style, AND she's an open book when it comes to her life.
br /
br /Finally is a little like "Won't Let You Fall," from Poseidon (2006), it's a big vocals track, and proves the power of her voice, from such a tiny person (5ft3" believe it or not!) and is about her giving her "love to him finally," whoever he is... but still, a genuinely GREAT song... very much from her dreams and experiences as a little girl/young teenager.
br /
br /Hands Up, GET YOUR HANDS UP featuring the Black Eyed Peas. Oh, wait, Hands Up, that sounds familiar - but no, it doesn't SOUND like the version on Elephunk... it's a rock-inspired anthem, with Apl.De.Ap rapping on some of the verses... not the best, but it's still pretty good.
