Oh Adam, wobbly of voice and leather of trouser, how we love you and your piratey chanting Ants, and your interesting ideas about make-up. You have to be a very hard-hearted person not to fall for tunes as mad, as catchy, as ace as "Antmusic" on the first date. One of the most visual groups to come out of the New Wave movement after punk imploded, it's all vanity 'round our Adam's way. iKing's Of The Wild Frontier/i is a perfect slice of narcissistic pop, led by a real, proper pop star. Having had his band stolen by Malcolm McClaren, Adam Ant regroups with a new tribe of Ants and releases this dinger of an album on the world. BowWowWow, as McClaren styled his stolen musicians didn't come within miles of the standard of this outstanding work. That was over 20 years ago now and this CD is still as frsh as ever to my ears. Nothing quite like it has been done before or after (what followed from the group became successively worse). For me the highlight and one of my top ten tracks ever is "Killer in the Home". So simple, so direct, so passionate - like the rest of the album. You simply cannot be into rock or popular music without having heard this CD. GET IT NOW!

If there is one good reason for buying the import version of this cd it's this - The import version contains the b-side to the Kings Of The Wild Frontier single (which i still have) called Press Darlings.brThe only other recording to have this song is the aforementioned single. It's not on B-side babies.brNow i've been fortunate enough to see Adam the Ants play live twice and the amount of B-sides he does live is a testament to the sheer DEPTH of material he and Marco Pirroni wrote in 1980 1981.brI've got almost all Adam the ants and Adam Ant releases and i can assure you THIS is the pick of the bunch.brForget anything released after Prince Charming, this CD is the best recording they made.

I grew up with Adam and the Ants in the early 80's and loved all their fantastic hits and the wonderful epic videos that accompanied them - and I now own 'The Very Best of Adam and the Ants' on cd. When 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' was originally released in 1980 my sister tape recorded it from a friend who had it on vinyl, and I thought it was a truly great album. That said, I forgot all about it and was just content with owning the 'Best of'. It was only very recently that I happened to be watching an ITV drama when they used the album track 'Jolly Roger'. It suddenly brought memories flooding back of how great this album was, an album that I hadn't heard for over 25 years.

br /Their unique sound is a combination of Post Punk/New Wave spliced with rockabilly, Glam Rock, American-Indian style tribal drums and chanting, plus a touch of New Romantic 'Don't Be Square (Be There)' and to a lesser extent 'Human Beings'. And on this album, there is even a Spagetti Western type theme tune 'Los Rancheros'.

br /This version is made up of the original album consisting of 12 tracks, plus some unreleased demo's tagged on the end and it's been remastered with a great crisp sound. Personally, I can take or leave the bonus material (no offence intended to any diehard fans), but as for the album itself, it still sounds amazing and has no fillers on it. My favourite's are: 'Dog Eat Dog', 'Kings of the Wild Frontier', 'Magnificent Five' and 'Jolly Roger'. It also struck me, when listening to this again, that anyone who owns 'Employment' by the Kaiser Chiefs would also love this, as they've both got the same charming and energetic spirit to them.

br /It's a real buzz re-discovering this gem after all this time - so welcome home you long forgotten classic. And finally, if anyone out there wants to be a Pirate, then why not hop aboard the Jolly Roger and set sail for a wonderful adventure.

If ever you needed a single piece of music that embodies the alternative to Thatchers eighties Britain, then Kings of the Wild Frontier is it. A combination of two-drummers, pantomime costumes and plenty of insect based lyrics made Kings of.. one of the ground breaking albums of the early 80's. If you are of a certain age then this one purchse will transport you back 20 years to a time when Curly-Wurly's were the size of your forearm and mushy peas and chips cost 12p. Buy it...it's GREAT !!

Let there be no doubt, this is by far the best album of the 80's. Listen to it now and the music sounds as fresh as it did when I first bought this album 20 years ago. The massive success of this album was also one in the eye for the sceptical music press. You may not like it now but you will.......
