Ever since they trounced rival boy band One True Voice in the 2002 final of iPopstars (The Rivals)/i, Girls Aloud have gone from strength to strength, blasting their way into the charts with every new release, even trashing The Spice Girl's record of 10 Top Ten singles with their own new record of 12 (and counting). The time is thus ripe for a Best Of anthology, which is exactly what iThe Sound Of Girls Aloud/i is. Raiding the quintet's three albums to date (iSound Of The Underground/i, iWhat Will The Neighbours Say?/i and iChemistry/i) the collection offers all twelve of the band's chart-smashes to date, from early, breakthrough tracks (the surf-guitar-riding "Sound Of The Underground" and the wannabe spy-movie theme "No Good Advice"), their cover versions (of the Pointer Sister's "Jump" and The Pretender's ballad "I'll Stand By You", and other GA faves like "Love Machine", "Long Hot Summer", "Biology", "The Show" and "Whole Lotta History". I love Girls Aloud, and this superb collection proves why everyone should. Someone made the point that Girls Aloud have had the greatest run of top quality pop singles since Blondie. Now that may sound a stupid thing to say, but ask yourself this question; what other band/group/artist could put together a collection as good as this from their last four year's output? Well I'm struggling to think of anyone. br / br /13 Top 10 hits in a row is a remarkable achievment for a pop band that started life as winners of a reality show but it's the sheer quality of the songs that have done the trick. br / br /Sound Of The Underground, Love Machine, Biology and No Good Advice start the collection of on the highest note, and are ably assisted by The Show (which in my opinion is their finest chart moment), Wake Me Up, Long Hot Summer and the absolutely wonderful latest single Something Kinda Ooh. br / br /Of course the downside with Girls Aloud has always tended to be the cover versions. Whilst I personally loved See The Day, no-one else seemed to, and the covers of Jump and I'll Stand By You are little more than attempts to appeal to the lowest common denominator (a fact admitted by their producers - Radio 1 rarely "A-lists" their singles) and come across as such. br / br /This is also evidenced by I Think We're Alone Now. It's, well, rubbish. But you'll all be dancing to it at the disco. br / br /The other new track, Money, on the other hand is absolutely brilliant. It's another classic barm-pot moment from Xenomania. It's mad, it's crazy...but it works. I still hold out that it's the best thing they've ever done...probably. br / br /Of course affcianado's of the band could argue some of their best work from the albums, doesn't make it on but I see those as our privaleges for believing in the girls throughout their career. You non-believers don't deserve to be able to listen to the likes of Graffiti My Soul, Some Kind Of Miracle or Wild Horses. br / br /But in all seriousness, whilst this isn't the perfect Girls Aloud collection, it's still a bloody brilliant one. All hail the finest pop act of the 21st Century.

By every unwritten law of pop music, Girls Aloud SHOULD be awful. A manufactured group, the product of an appalling reality TV show, they don't play any instruments, all their songs come from a hit factory's production line... how could they not be awful? br / br /And yet, somehow, inexplicably, they're brilliant. Not brilliant in an ironic, postmodern, arched-eyebrow-and-knowing-smirk way - just brilliant. And its not only pop fans who love their records; serious musos and critics love them too. br / br /Over a period of four years they've produced a dazzling array of joyous pop classics, and they're all included here. Despite the fact that the writing team at Xenomania works with many other artists, the songs they produce for Girls Aloud are somehow unique. I mean, who else but the Girls releases songs like 'Love Machine' or 'Biology'? There's just something wonderfully giddy and effervacious about a Girls Aloud song that makes it irresistable, no matter how hard you try to tell yourself you really shouldn't be enjoying it. It's difficult to pick favourites when the tunes are all of such high quality, but if pressed mine would be 'The Show' and 'No Good Advice'. They even manged to produce a terrific ballad in 'Life Got Cold'. br / br /My only minor gripe (and it is a minor one) is the inclusion of the four cover versions, none of which have been as good as their original material. Nevertheless, this is an essentital album for anyone who loves their pop. Long may they continue! br /

br / I really feel that Girls Aloud deserve every bit of recognition they are now getting. I'm not the biggest fan of pop-music, and manufactured-pop has never really tempted me, to put it politely! br / br / There's just something different about them. I know they don't write their own songs, but they don't claim to. They just do their thing and it works - whether it be covers, up-tempo songs or ballads, each and every time they nail it. What sets them apart from the rest is their personalities. They are extremely down to earth, and I think a lot of young girls can relate to them. They're charismatic and all have different qualities. br / br / All their songs have been classics, whether you're a die hard fan or just fancy a bit of a boogey, stick this CD on and let go! br / br /"Sound of the Underground" was where it all began. An absolute classic, and still a top tune. br / br /"Love Machine" - another classic. Humerous lyrics, a catchy chorus and just all round good fun! Love it! br / br /"Biology" - the song that made them credible. This song gained deserved recogniton from extremely respected critics. br / br /"No Good Advice" - this song is definitely a grower. I wasn't sure about it at the time of it's release, but now I can't get it out of my head! Full of attitude - great. br / br /"I'll Stand By You" - the first cover they did. It's #1 position says enough, but it's very well sung by each of the girls. One of their better ballads. br / br /"Jump" - A really fantastic cover of this up-tempo classic. Pump up the volume and keep dancing! br / br /"The Show" - This is one of my favourite tracks. Very up-beat, extremely catchy - a definite classic, with brilliant lyrics. br / br /"See the Day" - A cover of the beautiful ballad. Not one of their best, but it was perfect for the festive season. Not to be overlooked. br / br /"Wake Me Up" - very catchy hooks, sung with attitude. Not their best but still a great up-tempo song. br / br /"Life Got Cold" - their first slow song. Definitely not a cliched ballad, very brave attempt that paid off. br / br /"Something Kinda Ooh" - Arguably their best, and most established hit to date. It had massive success and catapulted the girls to even more popularity. Brilliant - such an amazing song. Gets me dancing on every listen! br / br /"Whole Lotta History" - I was really impressed by this ballad. Again, it doesn't sound like any other slow-songs around. Real emotion comes through on the chorus - brilliant. br / br /"Long Hot Summer" - A song that didn't receive much praise. It's not the best song they've done, but it's great fun and the lyrics are wonderfully random! br / br /"Money" - A new track. Again the random lyrics make the song humerous and br /enjoyable. Very up-tempo and every infectious. br / br /"I Think We're Alone Now" - AMAZING cover of the classic. I really love this track. br / br / br / All in all, a must have album. I don't own all the previous albums, and so this was a great way for me to catch up with all the old classics. If you're the same, or just need something to get the party started, then this is perfect. br / br / Although this album isn't innovative in it's lyrics or song-writing, for a bit of fun you have to give it a go. Girls Aloud have made it acceptible to like pop. You can still have your talented bands that play instruments and write songs - I do. br / br / Give it a go! It's worth it. br / br / br / br / br /

I felt driven to say something after reading some of the reviews of some pompous asses that decided to review and compare something that they are obviously not into. They have done it just because they think their music taste is better and degrade material they feel is not 'proper music'. I am sick of this attitude to music, you can't contrast one kind of music to another when they have completely different aims and niches in mind. Take this best of for what it is, unashamingly pop records, made to dance to: girls aloud are not pretending to do anything else. It is possible to enjoy a wide range of music. Do not sit on a 'authentic music' throne and typecast everything else that comes along. My rant is now over.

This album is an definate must have jam packed full of girls aloud's greatest hits. Its a bargain that you won't regret for £6!!! i definately recommend it i have been playing this since christmas 2006 and still love it!
