5 out of 5 stars Taking the high..or low road to stardom.   December 14, 2006

We all remember JoJo, some couldn't stand the overgrown 13 year old girl who was soaring through the charts to stardom in the States and indeed the UK. Well, after being more or less a one hit wonder in the UK, she's back after a long absence, after starring in film. Her first single from the new album, 'Too Little Too Late' is floating around on UK music television and radio, but is still lacking exposure. However, the girl who brought us 'Leave (Get Out)' has made a great attempt of success with her new album effort, 'The High Road', the UK version of the album coming with 14 new tracks, and her successful single 'Leave' thrown in for good measure. JoJo is due to turn 16 in December 2006, and her new music collaborations certainly pose a new sense of maturity in her music. Throughout the album, there is a great mix of Pop and R'n'B tunes, with barely a bad track to moan about. Fans of the songstress in particular will love it, as will any keen pop and r'n'b lover. Each track is of good length, and the variation between types of music is certainly addressed. Personal favourites include 'Coming For You', her forthcoming US single 'How To Touch A Girl', 'The Way You Do Me', and 'Anything', which features an intro from the soothing 'Africa' from Toto. JoJo reaches a target audience of more than just early teenage girls with this new album, I'd definately recommend that you treat yourself to it in time for Christmas.

Listening to this album you'll have a hard time believing that the singer is not yet sixteen at the time of writing this, and that she already has a platinum album under her belt. The first album "Jojo" spawned the hit single "Leave (Get Out)" when she was a mere weenybopper of thirteen, and this year she's acted in two movies in addition to putting together her second album. br / br /First single "Too Little Too Late" has been out for months, and has helped to create a lot of advance buzz for this album, which in my opinion delivers the goods big time. The single is about moving on after a failed relationship, and if you cast your mind back (some of us further than others) you can identify with the lyrics: "I was young / And in love / I gave you everything / But it wasn't enough" br / br /The album begins with the RB track "This Time", where she takes responsibility for a break-up, but isn't ready to give up as yet, and then she launches into a hip hop track "The Way You Do Me" which could easily fit right in on any Beyonce / Christina Aguilera / Pussycat Dolls / Danity Kane album. The title track is a great RB ballad, and then comes my favorite track "Anything" which samples "Africa" by Toto in fine style. Since hearing this track for the first time, it hasn't left the player. br / br /If you think she's done there, think again - and then listen to the Janet Jackson type track "Like That", the powerfully belted "Let It Rain", the outstanding ballads "Exceptional" and "How to Touch a Girl" and the RB tracks "Good Ol'" and "Coming For You". The album closes on an inspirational note with "Note To God". br / br /This is an exceptional sophomore album from a talented young artiste who still has limitless potential.

5 out of 5 stars Seriously Impressive.   January 12, 2007

JoJo used to really annoy me. The Leave (Get Out) lyrics really annoyed me as it was a 13 year old singing them. You could not, however, deny that she was a great singer. br / br /The High Road shows her voice to tremendous effect. The songs are fantastic, the vocals sublime, the production establishing JoJo as a real vocalist/performer. The only duff tracks are them two silly bonus songs. Everything else is flawless particularly The Way You Do Me, Anything, Coming For You, How To Touch A Girl and Exceptional. br / br /I'm now a fan.

Back in the days nuff cats was hating on Joanna "Jojo" Levesque like, she be laying tracks in the studio talking bout my baby done played me, when she be a lil teeny bopper herself B. Some honeys was like woah, I ain't having my baby peep that B., case she fall off from school and start letting the players play before she graduate. Check this though, a dog is a dog westside is westside crips is crips po-po's is po-po's just as music is music. She don't write none of the tracks on her LP except a couple and other cats is responsible for the production like beats and lacing the tracks no bs doggy. She don't do nothing but sing and she be a little white girl, lil white daddy's girl B., but she sing like Aretha Franklin who inspired her you dig. Jojo ain't no joke, and the old timers done reminisced all the time since her first LP tracks like "Baby It's You" stuff be banging in my trunk for hours after hours for real, no joke doggy, and cuts like "Never Say Goodbye" done made me reminisce couple days back 'bout my baby girl in Highschool we done been through it all B., and Jojo's pipes was the sound track to all that B. br /Now she back doggy, with "The High Road". All I know is, this vinyl sweet for real B., like no playing games B., some tracks is like Scott Storch stank cut you just know from the vibe whut done produced the track. But it's okay though, cos cuts like "Like This" melt like sweet chocolate from the top of grandmama's delicious apple pie, and "Let It Rain" done let all the honeys know to holla at a player and tell it straight up to they man for real doggy. "Too little too late" be the lead single and she come with it like whoa first time I heard the exclusive on the radio rolling down my brother Sha-sha XL's block like damn, Ima bang this in my ipod time I gets back to the crib for sho. Me and my homies is always hating on first single from second LP cos we is like mad critical given the fact that the first LP rocked mo boats than Aaliyah (R.I.P), and I gotsta get up and proclaim that singles like "Not That Kinda Girl" and "Baby It's You" no one can duplicate, but yo on the real, TLTL be a different species of track you dig like for getting real hyped at the honeys who's hating on the dlow, for expressing such emotion and anger put on the gaz blaze the heat get crunk from the back of the trunk. That's who we be on the real, this LP be taking a white girl brang it real heavy on the RB tip, get a real sweet jumpoff right here right there so the crips don't hate no mo, melodies so sweet that the po-po's don't hate on the drive-by's no mo. Man, on the real, my honeys ain't checkin on me no mo cos I moved out the hood, my paper be stacking to the ceiling, they thinks I is fake and all that, yo it is what it is I ain't changed, Jojo's first LP is my heart B., warmed my heart when I is standing on the corner in the rain with my baby momma Aleishka-Shaniqua Jr. (R.I.P) reminiscing bout how we gonna make it outta the hood and have us living good ya feel me. This be the ways doggy that Jojo's music be ill significant to a brother. br /Check on the UK bonus track "Take You There" for notes you ain't seen in your life, R Kelly needs to work with Jojo ayo I'm serious with this son, if he got any Thoia Thoing calibre Fiesta type I Wish level kinda music left in him after the feds be all up on him, in this unstable climate dude for real be naming next Jojo LP in unison with the others "The holy Trinity". Sean Paul ain't nuthin. Act like yall don't know. Peace. ~Jayo

I love Jojo! Shes such an amazing singer (and actress). br /I love this album! br /My favourite song is definitely 'Exceptional', the lyrics are so pretty, and it sounds as if Jojo is singing the song especially for you. I really hope it is released as a single.
