5 out of 5 stars What a little blinder   July 27, 2007

How good is this EP? Blinding. br /The Blinding song is absolutely a raw mess, but under control. Also, the last track Sedative is a monster of a tune, devouring me and my whole family, but i broke free and listened to the EP again and again. br /This Ep is a little peice of music gem for all Babyshambles, even Libertine fans too. It shows beyond a doubt that Doherty has gotten himself together and it firing on all creative cylinders. br /He put thepipe down, and got that right sound. Ahmen, brother.

5 out of 5 stars 5 songs, all significantly different   December 5, 2006

Good effort from Babyshambles, The Blinding and I Wish particularly good to listen to, and I like the way they have slowed down I Love You But You're Green - which I thought was a mistake at first but it grows on you part way through the song after the initial supprise. br / br /Beg Steal or Borrow is great, although I prefer the accoustic version and that is well worth downloading if you like the studio version. br / br /Sedative... jurys out on that one for the time being for me, seemed to drag the tone down a bit ad maybe would have been a better album filler rather than for a selective EP. br / br /Just my early opinions though, and Pete will have his usual die hard fans and the people who want to see him fail. If you are one of the latter block the tabloids out and listen to the music, don't let journo's influence you... if you still dislike his music after that fair enough - at least it'd be for the right reason.

5 out of 5 stars Exactly What It Says On The Tin   December 31, 2006

ie - Blinding. I think there are many people who will never open their minds and listen to Babyshambles, out of principle. Well, more fool them. So you've never heard of a rock star who has taken drugs? br / br / 'The Blinding EP' is a dazzling concoction of mind-blowing lyrics, uplifting riffs and impeccable drumming. Each song is vastly different from the next, and though I'd have loved Babyshambles to release a full album, and these five songs of effortless brilliance leave you craving for more. Hopefully 2007 will bring a long awaited follow up to 'Down In Albion', though rumours of a Pete Doherty solo-album is a mouth-watering prospect. br / br / So track by track- br /1) 'The Blinding' - the released title track is a hard-hitting, stomping tune written. It's very infectious and you cannot help but sing along - a great song. br / br /2) 'Love You But You're Green' - A slow song that carries a rather down-hearted tune. The lyrics are brilliant and there isn't anything bad to point out, although I always prefer Babyshambles doing what they do best - pure rock'n'roll. br / br /3) 'I Wish' - A fantastic, up-beat song that carries an incredible, infectious and uplifting tune. This is contrasted by the dark lyrics - 'I wish to God, I'd just been stabbed'. Pure genius. br / br /4) 'Beg, Steal or Borrow' - My favourite Babyshambles song for a long times. Although Pete's acoustic version was probably even better than this (and if you haven't heard it, you simply need to!), this more produced account of a fantastic song is still brilliant. Positive lyrics from Pete leave hope for the future. br / br /5) 'Sedative' - It seems people are undecided on this song, but I for one thinks it's great. Definitely an anthem - I can only imagine how spine-tingling it would be to hear it live. Superb. br / br /I feel strongly that this EP is a great piece of work from one of the only remaining bands who still carry the true spirit of rock'n'roll. br / br /Here's to a full album. Up the Albion! br /

5 out of 5 stars Blinding   November 8, 2006

No doubt that this is going to get panned by the envious critics out there that will be unable and won't want to see beyond his media persona. Take no notice, this is the Shambles at their glorious best. 5 tracks, all different and all glorious. All tunes are quite anthemy and catchy, especially Sedative which in my opinion is their best track to date. It all swings along in a very nice manner and the running order is just so perfect. This should put Babyshambles on the right pages for the right reasons but it won't. If I was to be overly critical I would say that it's perhaps a tad lightweight and missing some beef. br /

5 out of 5 stars The Blinding Sublime   March 31, 2007

It's symbolic of Pete Doherty's entire career that the title track of this EP should be interpreted by anyone who's ever reviewed it as being about the blinding glare of paparazzi bulbs. Hasn't anyone else noticed how Doherty (very obviously) pronounces 'it's so blinding' so you can hear 'it's sublime'? If you've ever read even a little bit, you'll know that the Romantic poets coined the term 'The sublime'. Put very simply, the sublime refers to something so exquisite and so terrible that it hurts to look at it, or experience it.The ultimate sublimity is 'the blinding'. And as Doherty writes 'it's the last thing that you'll ever see.' Kant wrote "Bedazzlement begins when perception crosses its tolerable maximum." This is about knowing how far you can go. Which is good news for all Babyshambles fans and bad news for the doom-monkeying tabloid journalists. br /
