Amazon.co.uk Review The youthful faces that stare out from the cover of this latest collection of singles from Irish rockers U2 suggests that the focus of the album is, perhaps, their lauded yet under-represented early days. A quick glance through the tracklisting shows that not to be the case, however. There are examples of their rawer 80s sound - "Pride", "I Will Follow", "New Year's Day" - but where, older fans may well ask, are songs like "The Electric Co", "Gloria", "I Threw A Brick", "Fire" from iBoy/i and iOctober/i? Similarly, songs like "With Or Without You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "Where The Streets Have No Name" were on iThe Best Of 1980-1990/i, whilst "Beautiful Day", "One", "Mysterious Ways" and "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of" were all on iThe Best Of 1990-2000/i. iU218/i does have the advantage of featuring more recent tracks, including their collaboration with Green Day, "The Saints Are Coming" and a new song, "Windows In The Skies". Whilst dedicated followers of the band may see this as a missed opportunity to offer fans some genuinely rare gems, it still remains a collection of mighty pop music masterpieces.i--Danny McKenna/i

Tremendous Introduction February 16, 2007 Scole (South Wales) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This compilation is really what people like me have been looking for - non-fans who have heard the singles, like them and want them on one easy to digest CD. This also serves as a great introduction and my surprise love of the single "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" has led me to purchase the Atomic Bomb CD.It seems rock bands can get better with age! Don't knock this CD - it does precisely what it was intended to do - expose the band to a new generation of fans. So what if some hardcore fan's favourite songs aren't on it - the people who buy this CD won't want to hear those initially. If it does for others what it has done for me, then the fans should be thanking it. I always recall the flack The Best of Bob Dylan got (a similar "slimline hits only" collection) - but a colleague of mine only had to hear "Tangled Up In Blue" once from that particular CD and almost immediately amassed a 20-strong Dylan CD collection! A thrilling listen from start to finish and a couple of very good new tracks to boot.
Still better than the rest November 30, 2006 Mr. C. P. Stone (UK) 9 out of 15 found this review helpful
I feel compelled to write my first review by the poor rating towards this album. each song on the album is better than any other rubbish in the charts and long may they continue. how can anyone not be moved by the music and lyrical content of each song. buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!11111
A brilliant collection of tracks November 22, 2006 U2 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Why are people giving it 2 stars yet are saying all the songs are excellent?

br /If you think all the track are excellent or most of them then at least give it a good mark. Of course it's missing loads of classics but you should be reviewing it based on what is actually on the album.
br /
br /I am giving it a 5. Each track is superb, including the fantastic new song 'Windows in the skies'

br /A must for all music fans.
Rate the music! November 23, 2006 D. Cocks (Cheltenham, UK) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
Ok, i agree with previous reviewers, if you're a u2 fan, unless you are a collector, there's not much point in buying this album as we've heard it all before. However, i believe an album should be rated on its quality of music ahead of anything else and U2's finest is up there with the very best. Therefore, if you haven't heard many of these songs, get out there and buy it now. It features the best songs from the best albums(well...most of them)from U2's career. I would have preferred a Queen-style complete collection of great songs rather than trying to condense the best into one album, but you cannot fault the quality and versatility of the music here from beginning to end within an album that has something for everyone.
great cd December 18, 2006 Vitor Lopes (somewhere on earth) 5 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is definately a must have for all U2 fans, it is truly a great CD, it's kind of a best of of the two best of U2 CD's
