HER FIRST ALBUM WAS AMAZING, THIS ONE IS GREAT. THE CONCEPT, THE THOUGHT BEHIND IT, THE CLARITY OF MIND AND THE AMBITION TO CONCEIVE MUSIC FOR SUCH GREAT WORKS, IS REMARKABLE TO SAY THE LEAST. I CANT IMAGINE HOW TOUGH MUST BE, AND THE COURAGE IT TAKES TO DECIDE AND GO FOR SUCH AN ENDEAVOUR. iT SHOWS BRUNI'S CURATORIAL EYE, HER KNOWLEDGE OF POETRY AND HER FINE JUDGMENT TO CHOOSE THEM, AND HER QUALITY AS AN ARTIST IN THE MUSIC AND VOCAL PERFORMANCES WHEN GIVING THEM A MELODY.

br /ALSO, IT IS A VERY WISE, INTELLIGENT DECISION TO TRUST YOUR FIRST ENGLISH ALBUM TO THE VOICES OF GREAT POETS, AND TREAT THEM WITH INTIMACY, WITHOUT APPEARING GRANDIOUS, SHOWING GREAT UNDERSTANDING, CLOSE UNDERSTANDING AND A POINT OF VIEW, MAKING THEIR VOICES YOURS. As another reviewer states, do not be put off by the concept of this. After all, what are some songs anyway if not poetry set to music. Being poems by some of the greatest poets, you then have beautiful sounding music and great lyrics ! This is good to listen with headphones while travelling. I have had no trouble hearing every word.
br /Hearing her sing in English is just as sultry as in French. I liked her first album more but this is as well produced.

A hypnotic environment of word and sound which provides a delightful excuse to investigate the work of the poets included....but I needed the scripts the first time round although the French accent and mysterious dropping of plural's' was lispingly attractive.Well worth a listen and all that the poetry demands.

I was initially put off this album by the many 'mixed to average' reviews by the peers of the music press. Still subjectivity reigns supreme!

br /One of the delights of Carla's 1st album was her singing in her native French, and all should know now she sings this in English, albeit still sensually and softly. The lyrics/Poetry is beautiful to listen to (Christina Georgina Rossetti, Dorothy Parker, Emily Dickinson to name a few..) - And the soundtrack is a delight to the ears, fans of her 1st offering will immediately appreciate the ambience and comfort the album cover promises so well.

I loved Quelqu'un m'a dit so much even though I dont speak french that I was really excited about the release of an english lanquage album, but here lies the problem. Carla Bruni cannot speak english! While the music is pleasant enough, I had to keep reading the lyrics to find out what she is singing. I really wanted/expected to love this album but english does not suit her voice. If you havn't heard the previous album check it out, it's superb - if you want french vocalists singing in english try Keren-Ann, she does it far better!
