| Customer Reviews: An improvement on Hector April 27, 2009 Roberto Salsero (London, UK) I watched El Cantante, and it is an enjoyable film, especially for anyone with an interest in salsa. The soundtrack certainly delivers. It is clear that Marc Anthony and the producers have a good eye for detail- the vocals are clear and expressive, the brass section is well tuned and it's been mixed well. I've taken the time to find the Hector Lavoe originals, and can honestly say that these cover versions are better. Mi Gente was a smash hit in the 70s, and has a really nice vibrant feel to it. If you're interested in dancing: El Cantante is mid-tempo and is danceable. Mi Gente is up tempo, but danceable. Aguanile is very fast, and is my favourite track because it's full of drama, with an excellent vocal performance, telling the story of when Hector was in the grip of drug addiction. Aguanile was the start of the cleansing process. There's a good rendition of Che che cole and El dia de suerte. The slow tracks Escandolo and Que lio have nice meoldies, and the brass and piano contributions of Que lio are better than in the Lavoe original. The final Lopez track is fine but doesn't really gel with the rest of the album. Overall this is a good album of high quality Latin music. Highly recommended.

Excellent August 28, 2009 sunsoul (Japan) This is an album that you should buy. Simple as. The audio quality, vocals, instrumental accompaniment, sheer energy, and everything else is near perfect. The producers did a fine job with this CD. Some great tracks to dance along to - El Cantante, Aguanile, Che Che Cole are top songs. I agree with the other reviewer - this probably is better than the originals, as the sound quality is really good. Add the range and power of Anthony's voice, and the top musicians playing with him, and you have a potent mix.
