Amazon.co.uk Review
In 2005, James Blunt was everybody's favorite overnight success story. In 2007, he's the guy who's making rock meaningful again. iAll the Lost Souls/i, the sophomore effort from the Brit responsible for restoring the seriousness of "beautiful" as a compliment, brims with big build-ups, epic-sounding ballads, and lyrics to lose yourself in. The vibe, laid out neatly on first single and opening track "1973", is clear-eyed and heavy-hearted; in anybody over 35, it'll produce nostalgia tempered by hopefulness. Here's a set that suggests rock has got its head screwed on straight again, that the path to real feelings need not necessarily be led by Norah Jones. In anybody younger, it'll cause the unsinkable suspicion that a lot of modern balladeers should be digging deeper. But in both cases it will satisfy. Compared with David Gray and Damien Rice last time out, this time Blunt seems to owe a debt to Barry Gibb--his voice quavers as sweetly and with the same delicate reach. Stand-outs on a brief but dud-less set include "I Really Want You," in which the sound of Blunt's breaking heart is set sparely and elegantly to something approximating the chirp of a cricket, the poignant and desperate "Give Me Some Love", and the VH-1 ready "Same Mistakes." -iTammy La Gorce/i

5 out of 5 stars All the lost souls   September 21, 2007

This is a slick well produced album. This is not an album that you need time to get to grow on you, this one is there from the start. Melodic, smooth and sweet. This is music that can be played any time and needs no real 'mood' to enjoy. br /This album holds no surprises but that doesn't mean it's just a re-hash of Back to Bedlam. This does have a lighter less depressive edge than the previous album. br /Easy middle of the road listening that is a worthy addition to any music collection. br /Worth buying; if you are looking for 'edge' no. If you are looking for an album that you will still be listening to in ten years time ; a resounding YES.

5 out of 5 stars If you liked Back to Bedlam, then you'll love this too!   February 3, 2008

Back to Bedlam was such a fantastic album which did really well so All the Lost Souls is bound to be over-critiqued. I've read some iffy reviews on sites and I personally think it's fashionable to slate James Blunt because of who he is (i.e. posh and well-spoken) rather than actually listening to his music, which is a shame because the UK should be proud that we've got an exceptional singer-songwriter again who manages to put emotion and feeling into what he sings. Anyway, I think that All the Lost Souls is a well-written and well produced album with some great songs such as Carry You Home and I Really Want You. I am a big fan of both albums and would say that if you liked Back to Bedlam, then you'll love this. br / br /

5 out of 5 stars James Blunt - The Brightest Star   October 16, 2007

This album is absolutely fantastic. Buy it! You will not be disappointed. The more you play it the better it gets. br / br /What intrigues me is that the majority of the reviews on Amazon give James Blunt 5 stars and then there is a small core of people who despise him and as a result seem to write with venom in their reviews. They create an unbalanced star count. I hope people take this into account when reading the reviews. br / br /

James Blunt came out of seemingly nowhere with "Back To Bedlam" and there were many doubters who said he couldn't pull it off for a second album. br / br /Thankfully they're wrong. br / br /"All The Lost Souls" captures life in the spotlight, life on the road and life in general with an almost Cat Stevens/1970s flair. br / br /The first single "1973" sets the era and "Same Mistake" and "Carry You Home" set the hook. James opens his heart and soul to his listeners, of you can get to the end of the album's "I Can't Hear The Music" and not be moved by the songs then you may want to check your pulse because it's quite possible you are dead, or at least dead inside. br / br /As an aside if you get a chance to see James Blunt live you will get a whole new appreciation for his music, the emotion you hear on "All The Lost Souls" and his previous CD "Back To Bedlam" is magnified ten fold when he performs.

5 out of 5 stars The amazing return of James Blunt!!!   November 12, 2007

A brilliant second album from James Blunt...An amazing production together with an incredible voice and very talented muscians could only bring a masterpiece to our ears. 'All the Lost Souls' will blow your mind from start to finish, the quality of James' vocals technics are so crystal clear, the lyrics so heartfelt and true to James Blunt. This album is a must for anyone who loved `Back to Bedlam' as well as for the few who did not as it offers a surprising range of new musical styles which will reach out to any generation; it is an absolute must for any fans of the 70's. Like `Back to Bedlam', it is worth listening to `All the Lost Souls' as loud as possible on your sound system once you have gotten to know it...But for first time listeners, it is recommendable to play `All the Lost Souls' on an Ipod (or at least with headsets if using a hi-fi) in a quiet environment with your eyes closed...in order to capture the true emotion of this chef d'oeuvre. This album will keep growing on you!!!...
