Very Good October 3, 2007 Steve Horsfall - Author (You Are Here ; Full Story Inside) (UK) 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
A classy compilation for a real star. A great touch to include the limited edition DVD for diehard fans (I hope a good Live DVD will follow as the last mini-tour was excellent). Never sure about adding new material to a greatest hits package but most of the songs do work here, particularly Glorious.
Simply Glorious! September 16, 2007 Mr. M. E. Longley (Wakefield, UK) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
When Natalie Imbruglia burst onto the music scene in 1997, many critics were quick to write her off as another generic soap star-turned-pop star, expecting her just to fade into obscurity after an album or two. Ten years later, Natalie has exceeded everyone's expectations and is releasing the first collection of her hit singles entitled `Glorious: The Singles - 1997-2007'. Additionally, Natalie has included five new tracks, including new single `Glorious' as a taster of what is to follow. Here's a brief review of every track.
br /
br /1. Glorious (23): The lead single from this collection. Very upbeat and summery, lovely breezy guitar riffs and even mentions London's `Frith Street'. One of Natalie's best single releases - 9/10
br /
br /2. Counting Down The Days (23): The second single to be released of Natalie's third album of the same name. A haunting track about being far away from one's love. Chimes are thrown in towards the end which add a certain charm and there's a slightly odd whale noise throughout the song - 7/10
br /
br /3. Torn (2) - Natalie's debut single and the most successful release of her career. A very angst-y track with soaring guitars and is among Natalie's best releases 9/10
br /
br /4. Wrong Impression (10) - The second and most successful single from Natalie second album `White Lilies Island'. Again, a very sunny and upbeat track with fast-paced, twangy guitars, reminiscent of The Sunday's - 9/10
br /
br /5. Smoke (5) - The forth release from Natalie's debut. A heart wrenching song about domestic violence (?). Here we see Natalie experimenting with electronica and showing us that she really can write brilliant pop songs and sing! 8/10
br /
br /6. Shiver (8) - Natalie's `comeback' song and the biggest UK airplay hit of 2005. An insanely catchy soft rock tune that I'm sure we all will know. Definitely one of the highlights of Natalie's career - 9/10
br /
br /7. Wishing I Was There (8) - The third single from Natalie's debut. A very rocky and catchy track which just screams late 90's! Arguably Natalie's most impressive early release - 10/10
br /
br /8. That Day (11) - The lead single from Natalie's sophomore release. A beautiful rock-tinged song with fast-paced guitars and impressive drum work. Lyrically, this is one of Natalie's finest moments with references to depression and coming out of it - 9/10
br /
br /9. Big Mistake (2) - The second single to be lifted from Natalie's debut. Another angst-ridden track about an unfaithful partner asking for forgiveness. This one builds up nicely with mid tempo verses and a huge angry chorus, eventually climaxing and leaving the listener quite satisfied indeed. Another great release - 9/10
br /
br /10. Beauty On The Fire (26) - The third and final release off Natalie's least successful album, White Lilies Island. Arguably Natalie's most experimental single, combining pop, rock and electronica. Smooth angst-y verses are coupled with a sun-drenched soaring chorus and the most impressive middle-8 to create, what is known to many as the best (and most underrated) Natalie single -10/10
br /
br /11. Be With You - An unusual track for Natalie. This one has a thumping baseline which carries the song. Paired with some delightful piano work, this is one of the best non-single tracks on the CD - 8/10
br /
br /12. Amelia - Another impressive non-single track and is very reminiscent of `Honeycomb Child' from the `Counting Down The Days' album. A very mellow and sweet track which is nice to chill to -8/10
br /
br /13. Against The Wall - The heaviest non-single track on the album. Not much to say about this one other than the fact that it makes for a decent album track - 7/10
br /
br /14. Stuck On The Moon - Another piano-driven downtempo track. Natalie always produces lovely ballads and this one is no exception. A highlight amongst the new tracks - 8/10
br /
br /STANDOUT TRACKS: Beauty On The Fire, Wishing I Was There, Glorious, Torn, Shiver
br /
br /To conclude, as you can see I rate this CD very highly, which is a label I do not give to many albums. There is honestly not a bad track on the entire CD and if you are thinking of purchasing this release, just go for it. This is certainly one of the best hits collections out there and I look forward to hearing much more of Ms. Imbruglia in the future. *****

br /The seemingly universal opinion of Singles Collection's is that they are a pointless exercise in the grand scheme of things. Natalie Imbruglia `s latest album release `Glorious: The Singles Collection 97-07' is however an exception to the rule bucking the trend by supplying a veritable feast of newly penned upbeat, up tempo tracks to a decade of classics that will have entered the charts and dust gathering music collection's of all of us at some point.
br /Some ten years ago now Imbruglia emerged from a worryingly lengthy gap in her career after Neighbours with an exceptional record deal with RCA which across it's duration has seen her working alongside a myriad of musical geniuses including Phil Thornalley ( The Cure ), Gary Clark ( Danny Wilson ), Crispin Hunt ( The Longpigs ) and husband Daniel Johns ( Silverchair ).
br /Kicking off with latest single release `Glorious', the album leads with its main aim, signalling Imbruglia's shift back from previous album Counting Down The Days melancholic acoustical state to a more chart friendly upbeat mood. Imbruglia's first album saw her attempting to make a name for herself . Fresh faced on the music scene on the back of TV success down under Imbruglia's sound was defined by many through her debut album as somewhere between Stock, Aitkin Waterman inspired pop and the steadily mounting hype and appealing nature of a growing indie-rock scene. Influenced and aided greatly by a small army of writing talent including main co-writers Phil Thornalley and Mark Goldenberg the building blocks of the soon to be hugely successful Imbruglia machine were set in place. It was the success of Imbruglia's debut album, selling some 6.5 million copies that influenced her label to loosen the reigns on her writing style. Influences to Imbruglia including The Sundays, Joni Mitchell and Radiohead slipped through, changing the second and third albums mood and tempo completely.
br /`GTSC' covers old ground refreshing the minds of the average music fan with giants `Torn`, `Wrong Impression' and `Shiver`. Teasing and grooming the more eclectic pop fan as well as the newcomer to Imbruglia's music with tracks `Big Mistake`, `That Day' and recent single release `Glorious`, the more die hard fan is left relieved and satisfied with a hand full of new tracks including the melodic `Against The Wall' and `Stuck On The Moon`.
br /Over the past year Imbruglia has worked on her fourth album, to be released next year, committed to previous album co-writers/ producers Gary Clark and husband Daniel Johns. The inclusion of Longpigs front man Crispin Hunt ( Newton Faulkner ) releases a certain diversity to proceedings moving Imbruglia's feel from melancholy alternative/ acoustic-pop and back towards the feel good, care free feel of initial debut album Left Of The Middle.
br /With something for everyone including all the old favourites and some new tracks for an eagerly waiting army of devoted fans this album should feature well in the charts beating all expectations . A classic for the CD collection.

Glorious: The Singles 1997-2007 February 19, 2008 crouteru (UK) Natalie Imbruglia is one of those pop artists who actually makes good albums as opposed to just good singles, so while this collection collects together all of her hit singles, I'd recommend finding her three studio albums aswell. Still, Imbruglia is a good singles artist and if you want to get a taste for her music, start here. New song 'Glorious' is just as strong as her previous singles, but the remaining four new songs are indistinct, especially in comparison to her singles. It's also a shame the song 'Identify' is not present, which she did for the Stigmata soundtrack. Though it's a very different type of song to her ususal style, it would have been nice for a complete collection. The bonus DVD contains all of her videos, including both versions of 'Wishing I was There' and new video for 'Glorious'.
Natalie Imbruglia's greatest hits February 26, 2009 José Milton (Sao Paulo, Brazil) Natalie Imbruglia became worldwide known with the smash 90's hit "Torn" from her debut album Left Of The Middle. Ten years later, she celebrates a decade of musical career with the release of this compilation of singles, including her latest songs as the 2005 UK hit "Shiver" and "Counting Down the Days". I fell in love with the new single "Glorious" and the other new songs on the CD "Be With You" and "Against The Wall". This album shows that Misses Natalie is more than an one-hit wonder, as US media describes her, and that she has made much better songs than the cover version for "Torn".
