5 out of 5 stars A third album, and a reinvention, of sorts...   April 11, 2008
H. Playford

"Delta" is the third album from Australian singer/songwriter Delta Goodrem, and it showcases a new and wonderful direction for her music. br / br /The music on this album is extremely different from her last album "Mistaken Identity" and even more so from "Innocent Eyes" and there has been some criticism of this change in direction. Having said that, Delta's trademarks (powerful melodies, strong lyrics and of course, her beautiful voice) are all present and correct. With this album, Delta has stepped out from behind the piano, and unlike some other reviewers, I think this unusual, experimental feel has made "Delta" her most interesting, and for me, most enjoyable album so far. br / br /The album covers a huge range of musical styles, from the powerful and dramatic "Believe Again" to the sunny, almost reggae influenced "I Can't Break it To My Heart". The versatility of Delta's voice is demonstrated by the energetic and rebellious "Brave Face" and the soulful "Possessionless". br / br /I can honestly say that there is not a track on the album that I don't like. Far from making me yearn for the "old" Delta, this music has made me excited to find out what we can expect from her in the future. br /

5 out of 5 stars Best album i've heard in a while - exceptional mix of styles and powerful vocal performance   March 2, 2008

I've had 'Delta' for over a month now and it is an album that grows on you for sure. I was unsure what it would be like based on other reviews. Yes, its quite different. The CD inlay gives you a good idea of what to expect though: br / br /"'Delta' is the 2007 release of the third full length album from Australia's Pop princess, following up two multi-platinum smash hits before it. The sessions were recorded by a variety of world-class producers and writers that included John Shanks [Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys], Stuart Crichton [Sugababes, Kylie Minogue], Marius DeVries [Rufus Wainwright, Madonna, U2], Steve Mac [Westlife, Boyzone] and Steve Kipner [Christina Aguilera, Natasha Bedingfield]. Goodrem's musical progression on this outing incorporates electronic elements and reggae beats, stretching her stylistic prowess. 'Delta' marks the return of a unique and talented artist with renewed vitality and energy. Includes the single 'In This Life'." br / br /If those are artists you like to listen to this album will not disappoint. Delta's message in her songs is always strong. This may put people off, but it gives a depth to her songs that is lacking these days. br / br /I've never heard an album that has 5 such different, and exceptional tracks, as its first 5 tracks. This album has that. br / br /The deep harmony of 'Believe Again', the catchy melody of 'In this Life', the meaningful and gentle 'Possessionless', the laid back mood 'God laughs' to the daring 'You Will Only Break My Heart'. br / br /'Bare Hands' has a very modern pop / electronica sound to it - and delta's voice fits it perfectly. 'I Can't Break it to my Heart' and 'Woman' are weaker tracks, yet don't feel like 'fillers' - her voice fills the bland material with feeling and life. br / br /'One Day' is another example of a very different song - sounds just like a Sugababes style song - with its rock influences and catchy melody it shows another style Delta has tried and succeeded at. br / br /The final track of the album - 'Angels in the Room' is something very special in my view. Her voice excels and the feeling of 'Angels' is brought across with the soaring vocals of Delta on this track. It reminds me - in places - of Annie Lenox's vocals on the Eurythmics 'There Must be an Angel' and how they gave the song an 'ethereal' element. Delta approaches that, although it is not as intense, nor as strong in the song, here we have it just for some very brief moments. br / br /Overall its the sort of album that when you finish hearing the last track you start it off from track 1 again. Each cycle of this CD is like a journey along a range of musical experience. br / br /Hugely impressed by this. People may say she is 'selling out' and becoming pop - i dont think so - i think here is an artist who is experimenting and one of the few artists who seems to find that whatever she touches turns to gold. There's not a single song that does not work. br / br /Buy it today - you won't be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars don't believe the poor reviews!!   April 1, 2008

Glad I bought the cd and made up my own mind because most of the other reviewers have rather slated this. In my opinion its an excellent and well produced classy album. Delta sounds wonderful and the songs are bloody good! I just don't understand the flack this one has got, in fact although I have only played it a few times I think it may well be my favourite of the 3 albums. On each of the other 2 there is the odd song I don't like much whereas I like them all on this one ( although obviously to varying degrees). Buy it and make up your own mind, there sure are some hard to please people out there!

delta's brand new album follows along very nicely to the previous two br / br /the album opens with the brilliant pop of "beleive again"...a huge immense opening with strings and a perfect choice for a single 10/10 br / br /"in this life" more rockier than a lot of deltas output...at times during the verses almost alanis morisette sounding but with a great chorus 9/10 br / br /"possessionless" again is a beautiful pop track with great lyrics about laying yourself wide open 10/10 br / br /"born to try" is a bit a mystery? from her first album and one of her biggest hits but this new version does nothing new and its a mystery why its here 7/10 br / br /"bare hands" is one of my favourites....very atmospheric..great lyrics...10/10 br / br /"god laughs" is a beautifully simple pop song apart parents breaking up...10/10 br / br /"you will only break my heart" is delta going all power woman...reminds me of a girls aloud type pop song..great vocals and a pleasant change of mood 9/10 br / br /"woman" sees delta on familiar territory...a big ballad about a woman who feels she ain't appreciated by her man 8/10 br / br /"brave face" is my favourite track on the album..it captivates you...all about new love and the feels that nothing can stop it...totally feel good 10/10 br / br /"i cant break it to my heart" a big delta ballad about waiting for your lover to come back and hoping they'll come back...great lyrics! 10/10 br / br /"one day" is another rockier strong woman track..ok 7/10 br / br /"angels in the room" is a largely acoustic track...pretty enough 7/10 br / br /the album does take a few listens to fully appreciate it..but then i think they all did br / br /a great album by a great vocalist!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!!!!!!   February 13, 2008

I ADORE this album. I have to admit on first listen to the first track 'Believe Again' I was a little worried, but that's totally grown on me. Then I moved on to the Australian single 'In This Life' which has one of the catchy-est chorus's I've heard in ages. It's a proper pop song and totally suits her. Then 'Posessionless' comes on and it's a total change of pace but the chorus is equally as catchy and lyrically beautiful! br /Another favourite is 'Bare Hands' it has a bit of the Rhianna Umbrella's about it but isn't as grungy, still has a Delta sound to it. br /'I Can't Break It To My Heart' is a proper break up song, it's gorgeous and sung beautifully. The chorus is brilliant, it would be amazing live. br /'Angel In The Room' is a gorgeous ballad and her voice sounds beautiful. br /The album is a leap from her previous 2 but it's a natural progression and it's still typically Delta, I really love it and think she has done an amazing job!
