This album is going to be HUGE! The song featured on this disc should have been released in the first place. The New tracks to be featured on the album sound great! I hope there is a UK release for this as it will do so well! Well done Natasha!
Bring some sunshine into your life January 24, 2008 Brida (Worcs) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I recieved this album yesterday and right from the very first time I listened to it, I knew that I was going to love it. Although I do not have Natasha's album, NB (I was put off by the first single from that, "I Wanna Have Your Babies" as I felt it was a substandard song which did not do justice to Natasha'a talent), I do have UNWRITTEN, and I love that. POCKETFUL OF SUNSHINE is a feel-good album, but not too sickly sweet.
br /
br /The opening track, "Put Your Arms Around Me" starts the feel-good factor. It is an upbeat track about feeling completely happy and safe in a relationship.
br /"Pocketful of Sunshine" is another upbeat track. This song is purely about positive thinking and trying not to let the actions of others affect you.
br /"Love Like This" slightly brings the tempo down but yet again, it is a positive song. The music is great - there is a great beat which makes it catchy and persuades you to dance.
br /"Soulmate" is the only song that I recognised, as it was released as a single a while ago. I love this song. On this album, it is perhaps one of the more sad offerings, yet that cannot take away the beauty of the track.
br /
br /I won't go through a complete run down of all the songs, suffice to say that all in all, this album is great, showcasing Natasha's talent as a singer and songwriter. The maturity that was shown on UNWRITTEN has come back. Maybe I should check out NB after all. . .
Homogenised and Generic re-hash. April 12, 2008 IWFIcon 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
It must have seemed to Natasha Bedingfield as if she had the world at her feet. And maybe she still does; but she's had to sacrifice most of her agreeable quirkiness to make it remain so.
br /
br /Her "second album" NB may not have been brilliant, but it was an album that screamed out personality; indeed it was unmistakably a Natasha Bedingfield record. Admittedly that might not be everyone's idea of a good thing, but in the homogenised generic world that counts as the modern day pop industry it was certainly refreshing.
br /
br /The American's didn't like it though, and it's Stateside release was quietly scrapped after the flop of lead single I Wanna Have Your Babies, conspicuous by it's absence here. What's more, after being postponed for some non-reason (which most certainly wasn't due to poor ticket sales), a UK tour was finally cancelled for some other non-reason (which again wasn't due to poor tickets sales at all) which suggested that things were looking decidedly sticky.
br /
br /Hence Pocketful Of Sunshine, here second album for the USA. Half of it is rehashed from NB, the rest new tracks, all recorded simply through Bedingfield's high work-rate, and not because her American label insisted.
br /
br /Yes, you might detect more than a smidgen of cynicism here, but anyone with a hint of common sense can work through the spin.
br /
br /On balance, at least the better tracks from NB have been left intact but the new tracks are the typical, Americanised pap that you'd expect from an American/Pop Idol contestant. The success of this album so far, at least compared to it's European counterpart, may prove that Bedingfield has made the right choice. This listener, however, remains less than convinced that she did.
