Amazon.co.uk Review
Thematically, iDetours/i may not seem like much of a detour to Sheryl Crow fans. Her politics pour out of these songs the way you might expect them to if you caught wind of her epic cross-country bus trip, with the activist Laurie David, to promote environmental awareness months prior to this release. From the quiet, faraway-sounding opener "God Bless This Mess"--a novel in a song--to the catchy but thought-provoking "Gasoline", it's clear that Crow has more on her mind these days than soaking up the sun or having a little fun, à la the iTuesday Night Music Club/i era. Yet there's not a groan-worthy song on this standout rock/pop/folk/blues album. If the themes are heavy (in addition to the political songs, there's an almost painfully tender lullaby for her son Wyatt and one, "Make It Go Away [Radiation Song]," that touches on her breast-cancer experience), the mood is cathartic, determined, hopeful at times and sad at others. "Now That You're Gone" grabs at clarity through the clouds of a devastating love affair and gets it, and "Peace Be Upon Us" picks apart pettiness and arrives at a wide-minded beauty. George Harrison seems present in some of these songs, especially the more personal ones ("Drunk with the Thought of You," "Love Is All There Is"). And that may be the highest compliment that Sheryl Crow, who seems to admire his gentle soul and shares his big heart, could ask for. i--Tammy La Gorce/i

5 out of 5 stars Return to prominance!   February 18, 2008

Album was released today and as soon as i got up i went straight out to buy it, and boy am i glad i got up to do so! What a fantastic album. I have to admit although Sheryl is my favorite artist of all time i was quite disappointed with her last offering 'wildflower'. However it seems as though this album goes back to her original rock roots as seen on 'The Globe Sessions' br /My favorite tracks have to be 'Peace Be Upon Us' and 'Diamond Road' br /there have been comments made about it all being political. Yes many songs are but what I love is that it comes from the heart, at least she has the guts to express her point of view and what way to do it, in such beautiful songs. She also talks about her battle with cancer and her split from Lance Armstrong! br / br /Whilst this review is probably no help to those deciding whether or not to buy this album all i advise is that if you enjoyed 'tuesday night music club', 'sheryl crow' and 'the globe sessions' then you will not be disappointed. br / br /I highly reccommend this album!

Despite the album not released until 18th Feb I have had Detours for a week (since writing this review). This album is just brilliant. Shine Over Babylon is my favourite song on the album. Listening to the album you notice it's quite politial but also sounds like the classic Sheryl material from years ago but at the same time she hasn't just stuck to the same old formula... This album surpasses her previous release (Wildflower) by miles. I am counting down the days until I buy the physical album which isn't long now. This isa must for anyone who likes even just one of her songs.. You will be hooked instantly!!

5 out of 5 stars Back to her best!   March 8, 2008

I am a long time Crow fan and have been looking forward to her follow up to Wildflower for a while now. Wildflower was a very different style of music to what we're used to hearing sprouting out of Sheryl's mouth. it wasn't to everyone's taste and I can understand the somewhat lacklustre reviews. Personally I liked it. In Detours, Sheryl has gone back to her roots and it's fantastic. Personal experiences and opinions are written into her lyrics and she sings them with confidence. On my first listen to the CD I was happy to check tracks 1 and 2 with a big tick. Thereafter, I wasn't so sure about some of the other tracks. I thought it sounded like Sheryl was straining her voice sometimes. However I listened again, and the songs rapidly grew on me. I thought 'Out Of Our Heads' was the weakest track and it is now one of my favourites. I can only put my hesitance down to Sheryl going back to her best. The style is reminiscent of Tuesday Night Music Club all the way back in 1993, and it's been so long since I've heard it, but then I remembered that's the music I loved her for. br /This is classic Crow and is a must for anyone with ears!

I rushed out on Monday to get my copy of this fantastic album and haven't stopped listening to it since! I have been a huge fan of Sheryl's ever since 'All I Wanna Do', but found her last album (Wildflower) to be abit of a let down. With Detours Sheryl is back to what she does best. Great guitars, strong lyrics with a political edge and catchy tunes. Stand out tracks include 'Peace Be Upon Us', 'Out of Our Heads' and 'Love is Free'. br /I feel so happy that Sheryl has returned to her finest form, and look forward to seeing her perform live in 2008.

This really is a fantastic album from Sheryl Crow. Some of her best work. Filled with real feelings and things she really believes in. An album that really sounds like work has been put into it and it means something to the writer. br / br /A must to own if you like Sheryl Crow
