Best band Ive heard in ages July 4, 2008 J. Griffiths (Chester, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If like me you've been waiting for something new to inject some excitement into the current metal/hardcore/punk scene which lets face it, is just full of too many soundalike metalcore bands (not that they're all bad mind!) then this is it. I bought this with the first album 'Birthing the Giant' which is also excellent, but for me, this is the better album, more aggressive vocals and a few more killer riffs in my opinion.

br /The whole album is just awesome, theres only really one song that I'm not too fond of and thats 'Sorceress', but its by no means bad. Favourites for me have to be the opening title track, 'Smiling Politely' featuring vocals by Benjamin Kowalewicz of Billy Talent (lets hope he sings a bit more like this on the next BT album!) 'Let it Pour' and 'Zeds Dead, Baby'

br /Ive had this album on for a week solid on my car stereo its that good. So if youve become a bit jaded, this is the album you need to re-ignite your faith again!
AWESOME HARDCORE June 24, 2008 S. Jamieson 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Finally a band giving a much needed metal injection into the regurgitated rock scene we have now. Cancer Bats mix metal and punk into an explosive cocktail which literally blew me away. It reminds me of Vision of Disorder but a bit more fun. I can definitely hear a southern metal influence in there with riffs compared to the likes of Down and Corrosion of Conformity. The band keep it ultra tight with very impressive vocals, like the sort that could rip up tarmac of a road! All this and I didn't skip one track! Definitely an album worth buying! HAIL DESTROYER!!!!
Hardcore heaven! June 18, 2008 SideShowBob (UK) I had never heard of Cancer Bats until a few months ago, but I'm so glad I did! Every track is full of raw energy that any hardcore fan, or any metal fan in fact, will love. Those amazing beefy lyrics of Liam Cormier and some snarling, greasy riffs from Scott Middleston make this album one of the best of 2008! Tracks:
br /
br /'Hail Destroyer': Title track and lead single and its obvious to see why. An amzing riff that stays in your head and once you know the lyrics, you have to sing along! This is what Cancer Bats are all about! Raw energy. This song has plenty of it! 5/5
br /
br /'Harem of Scorpions': Good second track but not as good riff but still a great track. 4/5
br /
br /'Deathsmarch': Awesome track. Great riffs and lyrics with a chorus that has to be put up loud. 5/5
br /
br /'Regret': Fast track that doesn't stay in your head but that doesnt mean its a bad one. 3/5/5
br /
br /'Bastards Waltz': Great lyrics again and when Liam sings 'coughing up blood!' you can actually feel him coughing up blood! THATS how much emotion he puts into his lyrics. Great riff again. 5/5
br /
br /'Sorceress': Really angry track that makes you want to jump around and not stop! Liam really spits ou his anger hear and its hard not to join in! 5/5
br /
br /'Lucifer's Rocking Chair': Slowest track on the album but one of the best. Awesome riff and Liam almost sings in this song but its still very heavy. Shows a different side to Cancer Bats, but its great! 5/5
br /
br /'Let It Pour': Joint best track along with 'Hail Destroyer'. Great riff yet again and equally good lyrics. Another song that makes you want to get very angry and headbang 'till the cows come home. 5/5
br /
br /'Smiling Politely': A happy track name but not a happy track! More raw emotion makes this a real highlight of the album. 5/5
br /
br /'Pray For Darkness': Less than two minutes but still a great track that really gets its point across. 4/5
br /
br /'PMA till I'm DOA': Awesome chorus and another great riff. Clever name aswell and one of the best tracks on the album. This would be a great one to play live. 5/5
br /
br /'Zed's Dead Baby': This album stays very strong all the way through to the last track. A great ending to the album and finishes like it started - heavy! 5/5
br /
br /Overall, I am astounded how good these guys are. Every track is original and you can play the album all the way through, then all the way through again! Its just amazing! If you like any type of rock/metal/hardcore music, purchase now! You don't know what your missing out on. I'm very confident this will become one of your favourite albums!
They deserve so much more attention! October 26, 2008 R. Barnie (Gairloch, Scotland, UK) This band is amazing, pure and simple. This album is fantastic from start to finish. I've seen these guys live (I have shaken hands with the lead singer!) and they were amazing. They were supporting Funeral for a Friend and, to be honest, Cancer Bats were better by a long shot.
br /
br /I'd recommend this to anyone who loves rock or metal.
Hail!! June 2, 2009 Mr. Alexander J. Davies (Wales UK) Snazztastic album
br /
br /Ranges from the dirty laid back groove of Lucifer's Rocking Chair to the energetic straight up call to partying Pray For Darkness
br /
br /An accomplished piece of music
