Amazon.co.uk Review For many listeners, iLittle Voice/i will be their first exposure to this soulful singer/songwriter, but it's actually Sara Bareilles' second record. Her first, the self-released iCareful Confessions/i, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films iGirl Play/i, iLoving Annabelle/i, and iMonster-in-Law/i. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (iLittle Voice/i features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song", "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications). Fans of Sarah McLachlan and Alicia Keyes will find much to like here. i--Kathleen C. Fennessy/i

Great debut - fresh, different and full of hooks August 7, 2008 R. WEST-SOLEY (Birmingham, UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Sara Bareilles is a breath of fresh air in the pop scene, and seems to have come from nowhere just when we needed an injection of hooky, melodic piano pop. Little Voice is full of catchy tunes, not least the chart success "Love Song". Stylistically there's a lot of variety here, from the bluesy "Vegas" to the edgier pop rock of "Morningside" and the sensitive, reflective ballad "Between the Lines". The clean-cut mix of piano and bass are ever-present, though, giving the album an honest approach - a bit like Maroon 5 meets Ben Folds Five, with Sara's expert vocal on top. As for Sara herself, she really has something special which defies a single comparison - at times she has a bit of Sandi Thom about her, at others she's a little Natasha Bedingfield, and then there's a bit of Gabriella Cilmi - her voice is really multifaceted.

br /All in all, well recommended - a great listen and every track worth revisiting.
My favorite album of the year September 21, 2008 JanF65 (uk) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have never written a review before but felt that this time, this gem of an album deserves all the credit it can get.'Love Song' is buzzing through my head all day long I think I even sing it in my sleep!! Every song is so different, a factor that is missing from a lot of albums these days, which makes it so endearing. 'Love on the Rocks' is amazing, I just adore it. Everyone should own a copy and promote this young maestro, she deserves all the fame and fortune of a Super Star. Certainly one to watch. I hope the second album is as great.
Standing applause for modestly titled "Little Voice" June 21, 2008 Louise Amkaer (Greenland) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
There is a jungle of female singer/songwriters out there, but only a few with a talent as Sara Bareilles. With "Little Voice" Sara Bareilles demonstrates that she is much more than one in a crowd of indistingishable artists. She is a poignant lyricist, versatile musician, and confident singer.

br /I especially like the way she works with rhythms in her songs. Some songs have drums and percussion, but the piano is the key in the rhythm.
br /
br /On some songs it is easy to identify her musical inspirations, but Sara Bareilles manages to let herself be inspired and take flight on her own.

br /Sara Bareilles deserves a standing applause for the modestly titled "Little Voice".

Quality June 12, 2008 Steven Welch 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this album on import quite a while ago and was very pleased with myself for unearthing a gem.

br /My only concern now is, having charted on most music channels with Love Song, that her popularity will take over her talent.

br /Buy this while you can, and hope that the consumer machine doesn't swallow her up!!
Something about Sarah June 21, 2008 Millie (Bournemouth, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
From the first time i heard the single released from this album, 'Love Song', i just knew that there was something special about this artist. And I wasn't wrong. We have all bought an album off the back of a good single and been disappointed, this will not happen with Sarah Bareilles. She has a beautiful voice, with an amazing mixture of blues verses pop vocalised with an elegant variety of power and beautiful dulcet tones. She reminds me a lot of Sarah McLaughlin especially the last track on the album, 'Gravity' (the tone of her voice is sometimes quite similar, this is by no means a bad thing)I wanted to write about each song as they are all spectacular but i think that you just need to buy the album to fully appreciate the quality of this artist. You should buy this album if you like the single. It is nice to find some 'fresh' music in amongst all of the copycat artists out there.
