Big Up For Lil Wayne June 26, 2008 The Wolf (uk) 16 out of 24 found this review helpful
Summer would appear to have come at last to the home forest.
br /The air is warm and good. The canopy of new leaves above my
br /head is reassuringly fresh and green and the young rabbits are all looking plump and playful....
br /....but in the cool depths of Wolf Cave a darker spirit stirs.
br /
br /Mrs Wolf has the hump again !
br /
br /Perhaps spurred on by the fine weather her TIDY hormones
br /have once again gone into overdrive and today is a BLUE
br /pinafore day ! A day to be truly fearful !
br /
br /She has been nagging me to get rid of my record
br /collection (around 7000 discs) for years.
br /
br /"....you've got nearly everything duplicated in CD format,
br /I just don't understand why you're keeping them. They're just
br /gathering dust. We'd have room for a new fridge-freezer if it
br /wasn't for them."
br /
br /I'm laying low and hoping that her mood will pass.
br /
br /Reginald Squirrel dropped by for coffee earlier bringing with
br /him the new album by Lil Wayne 'Tha Carter III'.
br /
br /He has the slightly overinflated belief that he has
br /single-handedly introduced the creatures of our woodland
br /community to hip hop.
br /
br /He has taken to wearing extremely baggy jeans and a baseball cap,
br /has adopted a number of somewhat irritating hand movements and
br /occasionally calls me "Brutha" when emphasing particularly arcane
br /details in his latest musical enthusiasms.
br /
br /His excitement about Mr Carter jnr's latest release is, in this
br /particular instance, entirely justified.
br /
br /16 tracks and an additional weblink is a whole lotta music and my
br /attention has not wavered for an instant through four back-to-back
br /listenings so-far.
br /
br /From the angry, swearey, opening track '3 Peat' (which certainly
br /gives celebrity chef Mr Ramsey a run for his money in the expletive stakes !) we might assume that we're in for a bumpy ride.
br /
br /The mood begins to lighten a little, however, with 'Mr Carter', augmented
br /by Mr Jay-Z and two delightful chipmunks (I'm not kidding - Just Listen !)
br /
br /The inspired and challenging lyrical content and sharp rhyming is
br /sustained throughout.
br /
br /'A Milli' is a particularly fine poetic highpoint.
br /
br /'Comfortable', is, with the assistance of Mr Babyface a light and bubbly
br /thing of beauty.
br /
br /'Phone Home', with its' spooky-kookie B-Movie arrangement is an extraterrestrial delight.
br /
br /'Tie My Hands, featuring the estimable Mr Thicke, balances a beautiful
br /melodic interlude with the machine-gun fire of Mr Carters stream of
br /consciousness.
br /
br /'Mrs Officer' is a funky slice of pure summer delight.
br /
br /'Let The Beat Build' and 'Shoot Me Down' both pack a powerful
br /emotional punch.
br /
br /'Lollipop' is a good poppy track and nothing wrong with that.
br /
br /Ms Simone's introduction to 'Dontgetit' opens the way to this
br /remarkable album's hard political heart.
br /A powerful and affecting masterpiece which will not leave him
br /misunderstood.
br /
br /I'm grateful indeed to Brutha Squirrel for having introduced
br /me to this fine work and I recommend it to you, in turn, very highly.
br /
br /....but back to reality and I have just seen Mrs Wolf flicking
br /her feather duster over my Joni Mitchell vinyl collection with
br /a slightly crazed look in her eye.
br /
br /Perhaps I should try and butter her up with a gift....
br /....a new apron perhaps ?....a bunch of freshly picked wild flowers ?
br /
br /....or maybe a couple of those plump little rabbits ? Hmmmm....
Exellent June 15, 2008 CRAZE (uk) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
First off this album aint boreing, its exellent wayne has really come on since his last album, the production is exellent and wayne's lyrics are dope,i love every track but for me 2 tracks stand out the most (TIE MY HANDS and SHOOT ME DOWN)really tight tracks and definetly one of the hottest albums this year, the only rappers i think can top this is NAS/THE GAME OR DRE thats if he ever brings out DETOX.So this is a must for rap fans PEACE.

Album of the Year - If you aint got it, Get it! June 9, 2008 L. Mason (London) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The album is incredible. Theres not much else to say. Well where do i stop.
br /
br /Every Track is a banger.
br /
br /Track 1 "3 Peat" Sets the album up nicely, 10/10 for me.
br /then enter the Jigga man track feat Hova, absolutely brilliant. Wayne even bites some lyrics from Jays "Lucky Me" and carries it off perfectly.
br /
br /Track 8 "Tie My Hands" is brilliant and holds the album down excellently really touching for a mid session interval.
br /
br /What can i say about Lollipop, nothing this track speaks for itself. sTill slightly different from the video version and the others knocking about. But brilliantly so. The album should have had a video version tho with the guitar i think thats just wicked adds to the track that bit more. 12/10 for lollipop.
br /
br /
br /Ill stop rambling on, but get it, ill be listening to this for th enext 3 years.
br /
br /
br /The Best Rapper Alive.
