Best song of 2008 thus far March 4, 2008 N. J. Duerden (BISHOPS STORTFORD, HERTS United Kingdom) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
Just to say this is easily the best new song I have heard this year-sensual,sublime and slightly quirky-not heard any other material by this young lady but this is fantastic!
Love, love, love this song! August 6, 2008 L. Green (London, UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful

br /Take a cute Aussie singer with an amazing voice and pair her with the masters of pop, production house Xenomania of Girls Aloud fame (and also boasting impressive work with Dannii Minogue and of course Cher's 'Believe' in the past too) and you have the perfect package.
br /
br /Sweet About Me is a genuine gem of a track. Of course Gabriella Cilmi's soulful vocals will draw comparison with the likes of Amy Winehouse but that's really where any similarity ends. In terms of the music, despite being penned by Xenomania, aside from the feisty, flirty ambiguity of the lyrics, it doesn't bare much resemblance to their work with Girls Aloud either.
br /
br /So, what we have here is something new, fresh, carefree and insanely catchy. From it's subtle twirling of strings and touches of synths in the background to the lovely little guitar breakdown halfway through the song, it's full to the brim with charm and you can't help but fall completely in love with this song and Gabriella herself.
br /
br /On this CD we get two extra tracks in the form of a snappy cover of Martha The Muffins' 'Echo Beach' and the beat heavy punch of This Game. Both are fantastic and showcase Gabriella's versatility over a range of styles. A brilliant single all in all and well worth getting your hands on.

This was Great! July 7, 2008 Hannah Keogh (England) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just stumbled on Garbriella Cilmi on itunes and when I heard this song, it just made me want to ing along! Cilmi has a really good voice, strong, perhaps comparable to that of Duffy, but all the more original.
br /This is a great feel good song, and even without hearing any of her other material, I am contemplating buying her album.

Possibly the greatest song ever made November 5, 2009 Branks (London) This song is just so beautiful, it really gets me pumped and I love it to bits.
br /My colleagues at the office think it's a bit much that it's played about twenty times a day on a sure advert, but they're just a bunch of silly billies!
br /If I had to use just one word to describe this song it would be, "awesome".
br /If I had to score it, it would get infinity.
Victim to a pigeon-holing industry she ain't... February 25, 2008 A.A.C.M (Essex) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
In the increasingly fickle music business, we are always bombarded with all these "hot tips" from the likes of Edith Bowman or *shudders* Fearne and Reggie as to who will arrive in a cloud of hype and millions of record sales in the new year. BBC News' recent Sound of 2008 poll was a disappointment - the tuneless, po-faced Adele came top, followed by the "new Dusty Springfield" Duffy, suggesting to me that this so called new music had become something of all style and no substance and record companies deciding there and then what the trend was and following it like the sheep that they are.
br /
br /Thankfully, there's a couple of exceptions to every rule. The exception here being part Antipodean part Greek chanteuse Gabriella Cilmi, who's quietly been beavering away on her forthcoming debut album "Lessons To Be Learned" with Girls Aloud hitmakers Xenomania since 2006.
br /
br /However, whilst the pigeon holing comparisons to Amy Winehouse will be inevitable (and this next sentence is in no way dismissing Amy Winehouse, because she is an equally talented artist herself) but Cilmi is in a musical field of her own. With a voice that radiates a charm well beyond her 16 years of age, "Sweet About Me" is a sneakily fine effort of a debut single - it's catchy without being too repetitively annoying, and the production is one of the most stripped down but elaborate ever seen in a pop song so far this year. Instinct tells me that this will definitely be one to watch out for in the charts over the next few weeks.
