Amazon.co.uk Review iSacred Arias/i is Katherine Jenkins' last album in her deal for Universal before she moves to Warner for another six-album deal, and she has decided to go out with a bang--albeit a quiet one. While her previous outing, iRejoice/i, saw the Welsh mezzo-soprano striking out more than ever towards the world of pop, iSacred Arias/i, as the title suggests, sees her return to her religious-classical roots with comfortably familiar tunes like "Abide with Me", "Ave Maria", "Pie Jesu" and even "Silent Night". The mood on iSacred Arias/i is as refined and peaceful as you'd expect given the title, and though there's an abundance of well known material here, Jenkins also offers us the more obscure charms of "Missa Criolla", a dreamy version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and a soulful take on "Down in the River to Pray". Other classical pieces include "Panis Angelicus" and Barber's haunting vocal piece "Agnus Dei", which help make this a triumphant final flourish for both her and Universal. i--Danny McKenna/i

Katherine Jenkins - Sacred Arias December 12, 2008 Musical anorak (Scotland, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I really looked forward to this album's release. It was worth the wait, I was not disappointed.

br / This album in my opinion, contains Katherine's best vocal to date. The vocal production is free and unhurried, giving the whole album a very relaxed feel. I really like all the repetoire chosen, my own personal favourites include: Goodall's "The Lord Is My Shepherd"; "Down to the River To Pray" "Ave Maria" and "May The Good Lord Bless You and Keep You".
br /
br /I do agree that the choice of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", seems a little odd. However, while Katherine's version is not as definitive as k.d. lang or Jeff Buckley's version - it is still well sung.

br /I would definately recommend this album, to anyone considering purchasing it.
Yet Another Winner October 28, 2008 J. W. F. Edwardson (Shetland Isles) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have been eagerly looking forward to the release of this album, and I have not been disappointed. Contrary to the opinions of some previous reviewers, I think this is one of Katherine's best, if not THE best. I find it so inspirational and moving, so gentle and peaceful; whether or not you're religiously minded, the spellbinding voice of this beautiful girl cannot fail to uplift the heart. Never mind five out of five, if I could, I'd give this album a hundred out of a hundred; it is worthy of a place in anyone's collection; DO NOT miss it!
Sacred Arias - Simply a beautiful performance from Katherine May 8, 2009 JoViGo (uk) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've followed Katherine from the start have absolutely enjoyed her voice talents from day one. I've collected all her recordings I have been more than pleased with each one, especially as in each case as time goes on her voice, her style her confidence improves very subtley but very noticeably in every new recording you get to hear more of that Grace Passion that imbues her singing with a warmth vitality that is absolutely intoxicating.
br /
br /I reckon in my own mind she has one of the finest voices in her field if not the finest. Most of her work has been in the classical arena with a few examples of more modern pieces done in a classical format or in her own interpretation as in her last CD rejoice which I have to say impressed me quite dramatically, especially when you hear - I Kiss from a rose.
br /
br /So now we come to Sacred Arias what I believe now is her best work. The choice of spiritual songs may not be everyones cup of tea but in this case it is beautifully done in a way that anyone can enjoy appreciate for what they are, warm, empowering spiritually uplifting in the purest sense.
br /
br /The arrangements have been done in a way that does not overwhelm Katherine's voice but brings out the warm rich texture of her voice. When you listen to - Down in the river to pray or Hallelujah you will here a soulfullness that is rare to find that will indeed take you to a very warm place in your heart. In the tracks Ave Maria,Misa Criolla Agnus dei you will hear a purity in her voice matched with warmth, power grace that is truly beautiful by any estimation.
br /
br /I thoroughly recommend this Cd it touches the heart soul because it has been sung with heart soul by a very talented young lady.

SIMPLEMENTE GRANDIOSA Y ENCANTADORA October 31, 2008 C. Bellegarrigue (El Salvador) 5 out of 9 found this review helpful
