| Customer Reviews: Now Look, - here's an artist ! March 13, 2008 SMc (United Kingdom) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Before Ronnie joined The Stones and whilst with The Faces, he had begun to carve out a successful solo career as a jobbing session musician and a songwriter in his own right. (You only have to check out the songwriting credits and particularly the melodies on The Faces and Rod Stewart solo albums to prove this.)
br /
br /Following on from his debut "I've Got My Own Album To Do" in 1974, he came back with "Now Look" a year later (1975)which benefited from the inclusion of Bobby Womack on guitar and backing vocals and Ian McLagen on piano/organ with all three sharing co-producer credits with the latter two - steeped in the r 'n' b / soul of Booker T et al bringing something to the table without doubt.
br /
br /Highlights are the Womack influenced (or co-written) "If You Don't Want My Love", "I've Got A Feeling", "Now Look" and the dirty-sounding "Breathe On Me" with some lovely pedal steel from Wood himself. And that's the measure of Wood, he'a a seriously under-rated musician, whether on guitar, bass, or pedal steel, he plays and writes a good melody.
br /
br /He always played a really bluesy bass with Jeff Beck and on Rod Stewart's early albums continued in that same vein. Added to the good slide and pedal steel work he did and that "Stones"-feel dirty guitar sound, you can understand why Keith pulled him into the Stones.
br /
br /I have the original vinyl (less than £3 at the time) and can heartily recommend this album. Incidentally, he never improved on this album, this WAS his piece de resistance!
