Amazon.co.uk Review
Though Oasis are forever fated to live in the shadow of their initial success, they remain capable of producing exciting and touching music, and IDig out Your Soul/I continues the upswing in their fortunes sparked by 2005's iDon't Believe the Truth/i. Unashamedly an album of two halves, the first part is heavily loaded with Noel Gallagher's tunes, including the pounding single "The Shock of the Lightning", a taut and pacy rocker nearer to the light touch of the Smiths' "The Queen Is Dead" than their usual Pistols-inspired power plod. The rocking "Bag It Up" shares nothing but a title with Geri Halliwell's already forgotten 2000 hit, while "Waiting for the Rapture" takes Lennon's harrowing "Cold Turkey" as a template, with some success. Liam's crude, sparky "Ain't Got Nothin'" holds up his side and his sprawling ballad (the only such effort here) "I'm Outta Time" adds another anthem to their repertoire. Even Gem Archer's "To Be Where There's Life", a bracing slice of undercooked psychedelia, is naggingly catchy. Only Noel's "(Get off Your) High Horse Lady", a pointless rewrite of Tommy Tucker's mod-era favourite "Hi Heel Sneakers" and Andy Bell's ungainly "The Nature of Reality" are downright inessential. Those missteps aside, it's hard to imagine anyone feeling shortchanged by iDig out Your Soul/i. i--Steve Jelbert/i

5 out of 5 stars Great album.   October 5, 2008
Ha! Ha! Said The Car (Salford, Lancs, England)

I've just heard this on Myspace. I've never been a fan of this band...but I have enjoyed this album start to finish. It is chock full of great ideas and surprises...never mind that they quote liberally (I loved hearing the influence of "Saucerful of Secrets" era Pink Floyd)...it's put together with such style and love that I could not care less where I've heard it before. It's more interesting than the Beatle's remix album, and those riffs appear as if from a dream of their music. To hear "Taxman" stretched out and mutated into a slow, tripped out event was wonderful. br / br /Previous efforts have been drab affairs in my opinion...really down beat, more like the Rolling Stones than the Beatles...but this is a tonic. It's depressing to hear so many wanting to hear old stuff. Move on. This is much better and more interesting than their first two albums and a whole lot more likeable. br / br /Sure the debauchery is gone...but hey, they've grown up. They aren't short of energy and the guitars rock better than ever. br / br /It's beautifully produced, played and sung very well, with a much broader sonic palette. It's great that the whole band have pulled together to come up with a consistently good record.

5 out of 5 stars A Truly Great Rock n' Roll Album! Magnificent!   September 23, 2008

What can I say? If Don't Believe The Truth was considered a return to form, then this one will just blow you away. This is the album that the Gallagher brothers have been promising since the infamous bloated 'Be Here Now'. br / br /Unlike the rather dissapointing follow ups to Be Here Now, this one doesn't sound as if they're trying to recapture past glories. Instead, it's the sound of a band who are much more mature, focussed and discovering new sounds. br / br /It does contain some of their best work that would easily fit on Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. Noel's songwriting is back on total firing form, giving us great stompers and beautiful psychedelia. Yes, The Beatles are once again a major influece - but frankly, who cares? The fact is that every band borrows from the Beatles, it's just that Oasis are the only ones who do it the right way. Anyway, Oasis are The Beatles of this generation. br / br /Liam's songwriting just gets better and better - you've got to listen to his beautiful ballad 'I'm Outta Time', which contains a speech sample of his hero John Lennon. br / br /Quite simply an album that sits proudly on the shelf beside Definitely Maybe and (What's The Story) Morning Glory?. Oh yes, you better believe it - Oasis are well and truly back on form.

5 out of 5 stars When Noel said it was their best for ages..he wasn't lying this time!   September 23, 2008

So, apart from the die hard fans most people have lost faith in Oasis, and am I the only person left in the world wondering why? They gave us 2 unforgetable albums, and although we've had a lot of filler material, they have still managed to give us albums which if released by other bands, would be considered mastepieces. People often forget that Noel left himself with extremely high standards to follow from day 1..it wasnt all going to be perfect now was it? br / br /Now on to the album, and as much as I hate overraved, hyped up albums we wait for that come to dissapoint us, I must add to the praise of this album. It is truely fantastic, Oasis finest moment in a long while and although it may not always be as instant and hooky as anything from their first two albums, its defiantly an album full of growers. It takes a few listens but the magic will really start to pour out from your stereo. As an album it all works and links up perfectly, everythings in the right place and you can tell the band took a lot of time working on the structure of the album and making it flow. It seems in a simlar vein to Paul Wellers record this year (22 Dreams) like a musical journey, which is not a bad thing at all! br / br /The highlights are hard to pick (always the sign of a good album) but opening with a song like Bag It Up was a top move and sets the standard for the rest of the album. As for Liams 'I'm Outta Time' I was truely moved. Simlar to Lennons 'Jealous Guy' and even featuring a sample of his speech, it's a beautiful track with one of the albums finest melodies...and all this, from Liam. I was quite suprised indeed. br / br /So yeah, never a dull moment with this band- may not be to everyones liking- but worth atleast a listen, and if it dosen't appeal at first, just keep listening- you'l get there one day. br / br /This band make me proud to be British. God save the Queen and all that.

I can honestly say that I like every single one of the songs on this album. Oasis was defienetly due for a change, and they've absloutely brought it this time. The songs work really well together and listening to the album from start to finish is an experience. It's really Beatles inspired, especially To Be Where Ther's Life and I'm Outta Time but that's a good thing. Their best album since Morning Glory, my faves are Bag It Up, I'm Outta Time and To be Where There's Life. A must buy.

As a die hard Oasis fan i knew this would be special but i never thought it would be this good. Oasis have changed things a bit went experimental and by god it pays off! Very Beatles inspired throughout but not in any way a bad thing! Bag it up is one of the highlights of this album but for me every track is a winner! Definitely Oasis 4th best album 2 date! br /No more sniping from non Oasis fans sayin they sound the same every record because with this they have no argument they should run for cover this record will blow you away !!
