Amazon.co.uk Review Once you've won the lottery you don't go throwing the same parties you used to when you were on a two-cans-of-cider student budget--you lay on a spread, you let people know what you're packing these days. It's a sentiment that runs right through iFolie À Deux/i, Fall Out Boy's fifth and most audacious studio album. Having already expanded their sonic palette way beyond emo with 2007's mega-selling Infinity On High (and to a much more successful extent than peers Panic At The Disco with their mainstream-chasing iPretty. Odd./i) they really go for broke here, not only racking up track after track of glitteringly anthemic sing-along action--while also somehow managing not to betray the muscle that made them famous in the first place--but also visibly parading a line of notable guests in case you were any doubt as to their status as rock A-listers. Elvis Costello, Travis McCoy and members of The Academy Is... and Panic At The Disco crop up in cameos on Aerosmith-esque ballad "What A Catch, Donnie", all singing lines from previous Fall Out Boy tracks. We told you it was audacious. Lil' Wayne stamps some style on the Michael Jackson pop verse of "Tiffany Blews" and Debbie Harry duets the album to a close on "West Coast Smoker". Elsewhere, out of the VIP room, "America's Suiteharts" still gets noticed by walking over ELO's "Mr Blue Sky" in Foo Fighters' boots and "I Don't Care" throbs like the tattooed cousin of "Spirit In The Sky". --iJames Berry/i

Great Album, But Go For the Deluxe Box. October 14, 2008 B. Neville (Durham) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
For this album Fall Out Boy have definately verged towards the Pop side of Pop/Punk, Pete Wentz still delivers very quotable lyrics with great hooks and Patrick Stump's music has definately been influenced by his 80's childhood and also, especially in the latter half of the album, a RB influence. The first 7 tracks will sound familiar to fans of Infinity on High but are great in themselves. "Disloyal Order of Water Buffalos" is a great intro to the album which seems to borrow certain melodic traits from The Who's Baba O'Riley. Then follows the glam stomp of 'I Don't Care', the first release from the album, and dizzy thrills of 'She's My Winona', but topping the lot is the gloriously anthemic 'America's Suitehearts'."Why-why-why won't the world revolve around me?" screams Stump before a slick key change heralds a chorus so big it probably requires its own postcode. "Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet" has a 80's style synth to it and "The (Shipped) Gold Standard" is THE skip to track of the album that a Justin Timberlake-like falsetto dominates in. "(Coffees For Closers)" is defined by it's strings outro and following suit, but in a very different tack, is 'What A Catch, Donnie', which finds the group gathering round the piano with buddies Elvis Costello and Travis McCoy for a moment of Elton John-style pop bliss. One wonders whether an entirely separate vocal studio was required for the harmonic textures that spill over from the dizzying rock opera of '27'. 'You're a classic, like a little black dress,' runs 'Tiffany Blews'startlingly suave refrain, which is slightly ruined by Lil' Waynes incoherent warbling at the end which sounds as if it was recorded on an answering machine! Brendon Urie from Panic(!) At The Disco is on hand for the jaunty piano number "20 Dollar Nosebleed". As for 'w.a.m.s.' and 'West Coast Smoker', they combine extravagant orchestral drama with a sleek, hooky momentum and the latter has a rather understated appearence by Debbie Harry. The "Beat It" cover seems a bit tacked on but will be appreciated by fans who didn't purchase **** earlier this year which had it as a bonus track. The Bonus Tracks themselves are fun and in my opinion worth the purchase of the Deluxe Box.
br /Overall this is a fine album that will please newer fans and first time listeners alike, but long time fans might be a bit disappointed by the lack of songs of the like found on "Take This To Your Grave" and their most successful album the double platinum selling "From Under the Cork Tree".
Big, bold brilliant January 31, 2009 Captain EO (Cardiff, Wales, UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ever since their first album, Fall Out Boy have progressively developed their sound whilst just about sticking to their roots, each release has thrown up a new direction. Whilst many of their fans beg for another album in the vein of 2003's "Take This to Your Grave", the band seem to love surprising people and, unlike most of today's current "cool" rock bands, delight in daring to move towards, dare I say it, pop music commercialism !!!

br /I loved their last release "Infinity on High" thought a large part of it's genius was in how strong the majority of tracks were. Folie A Deux isn't as strong in terms of almost every song being great but the songs that do stand out are just superb. There are 4 or 5 tracks on this release that are truly classic tunes. They're all massively produced, mostly radio-friendly, all stadium anthems-in-the-making could be categorised as pop as much as anything else. Coffee's for Closers 20 Dollar Nose Bleed both feature none other than Jerry Hey on horns. This is the guy whose signature sound features prominently on Michael Jackson's classic albums. NOT the normal guy a rock/alternative band turns to when they want to add some punch to a track.
br /
br /The opening to the album is perfect. It's an epic rock anthem which kicks furiously into the stomping "I Don't Care" things really get going by Track 5 which opens rather darkly but twists into a ballad-style chorus, classic Fall Out Boy. Coffee's for Closers sing-along brilliance lets the listener take a breath before the quite beautiful What a Catch Donnie. Several solid tracks later the last but one track is as sweet as it gets when listening to modern day pop-rock. By now hardcore fans of FOB's earlier stuff will probably be shaking their tattoed fists in disgust but the Beatles didn't evolve into the band they did by re-releasing "She Loves You".
br /
br /The album's far from perfect as previously stated, it's not as solid as Infinity on High but does offer more variety. A number of the arrangements are really off-the-wall the lyrics leave you scratching your head (no change there Mr Wentz). Some of the production is also so large it sometimes gets messy whilst it may sound brilliant on CD or mp3, I've a feeling the boys will struggle to recapture the sound on stage unless they get a bigger band to back them up live.
br /
br /I really think this is a hard release to categorise or even recommend because even people who loved FOB's last release may not take to the sound but I think it's a brave brilliant release.
Fall Out Boy Baby. November 7, 2008 Claire (England) 2 out of 26 found this review helpful
Well i know this album is yet to be released.
br /But we already know it's going to be great They have never let us down before. They are a punk band mainly but have got some pop beats to thier singles. All their songs adopt a different style, yet are still amazing.
br /I DONT CARE is the only song that has beeen released from Foile A Deux ( thier new album ) so far, and it is awesum. If you have not heard it i suggest you download it now. The video with it is also amazing, so watch it! I DONT CARE has prehaps the catchiest chourus EVER. It's great throughout, as im sure every song on the album will be! Sadly the release date has been moved on further, as they are working very hard on it to make it the best album ever. They also done this becuase they didn't want to release it to near to the American Election- as they didn't want to be seem as trying to get fame of it!

Having reached a play count on my personal Itunes of 20 full plays of this album, i truly believe this album is a piece of magic.
br /
br /By far the songs on this vary from pop, to jazz to even a bit of screamo on the last song, this album creates a general happiness in the air.

br /Standout songs are tack numbers 1,2,5,6, 11 and 13
The Band Who Would Be King..... December 19, 2008 Miss Musagli (Nottingham, UK) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Gets better and better with each listen. Beautiful harmonies. And some great guest vocals. I think Stumpy's voice has got even better with the last two albums. I still think I prefer Infinity on High, but that could change.
br /
br /I wasn pleased to hear that Pete was becoming less introspective with the lyrics on this one- still not afraid to tackle the darker issues.
br /
br /Anyone else want a top hat and cane for track 12? Ahh...just me...
