Another Reason To Believe January 11, 2009 The Wolf (uk) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Tottenham has every reason to be proud of young Mr Obika.
br /
br /A class act becoming classier with each successive album.
br /The Reason, his fourth release, finds the man and his voice
br /in very fine fettle indeed.
br /
br /The ten tracks deliver a coherent and satisfying aural experience.
br /Our hero's flexible and mellifluous tenor continues to mature in
br /both range and expressive power.
br /
br /'The Reason', 'Weight Of The World' and 'If She Knew'
br /all deliver a lyrical and uplifting experience with
br /their strong melodies and complex harmonic arrangements.
br /
br /'Heartbreaker' rips up the rug and rocks. The rough edges
br /in the vocal enhancing the band's energetic performance.
br /
br /The ska-ish beats of 'Trust Me' skitter along merrily.
br /
br /The old soul-train strains of 'Over You' are a pure delight.
br /
br /'Mayday' gives us the true heart of this fine recording.
br /A really beautiful song - beautifully sung.
br /
br /The sharp rhythmic syncopation of 'Wait Forever';
br /'Not What You Say' with it's tight horn arrangement
br /and the plaintive 'Black Tide' bring this fine project
br /to an affecting close.
br /
br /Good wholesome stuff from one of the best on the block.
br /
br /Highly recommended.

Stunning! October 22, 2008 Graham Timms (London) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you thought his single 'If She Knew' was good, just wait til you hear the rest of his new album! Whilst the lead single is a stunning return for Britain's best R'n'B artist, the whole album is packed with songs of the same quality. Anthemic title track 'The Reason' sets the tone; 'Weight of the World' is a soulful ballad and would rip the charts apart; there's a funky brass section in 'Little Miss Heartbreaker' that would put Mark Ronson to shame; and 'Wait Forever' harks back to the brillant KaciJoJo whose ballad-with-beat style is tributed here. In short, a stunning album...

Simply stunning! December 14, 2008 MadaboutMusic (Hertfordshire, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album is simply stunning. If you're a fan of smooth RB then this is it. There isn't a weak track on this album. I've already burned a CD from my download and will be playing it all the way to work and back again for the next week. I will now check out more from Lemar.
