Brilliant album November 27, 2008 Sl Leaning (Manchester) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This album is great. The Boy Does nothing was a brilliant first single but there are plenty of potential singles on this album. Definatley worth buying this album - Alesha at her best.
Brilliant Album By The Queen Of Strictly! December 21, 2008 Ronnie (Bromsgrove, Worcs, U.K) 19 out of 22 found this review helpful
1. Welcome To The Alesha Show. Even though only 26 seconds, this has a lot of soul. 8/10
br /2. Let's Get Excited. A brilliant piece of slinky elctropop with RB influences. 9/10
br /3. Breathe Slow. Beautiful ballad with a brilliant lush soundscape. 10/10
br /4. Cinderella Shoe. Sounds like a cut from Girls Aloud's "What Will The Neighbours Say?". 10/10
br /5. The Boy Does Nothing. The single of 2008. Brilliant Xenomania production with about 22 catchy bits. 10/10
br /6. Chasing Ghosts. Like the soul-revival of 2008. 8/10
br /7. Play Me. Song with brilliant drum bass influences. 9/10
br /8. Hand It Over. A rap-pop song. Rather like "Some Like It" by Amerie. 10/10
br /9. Do You Know The Way It Feels. A chill-out cut. 8/10
br /10. Can I Begin. A Destiny's Child-esque ballad. 9/10
br /11. Italian's Do It Better. A beautiful ballad, like the new GA track "The Loving Kind". 10/10
br /12. Ooh Baby I Like It Like That. With the title, you'd expect it to be a club cut. It is. Beautifully dancey. 10/10
br /13. Don't Ever Let Me Go. A surprisingly upbeat ballad. 9/10
br /14. I'm Thru. Sounds like "Here We Go" from the GA album "WWTNS?" A Moonbaby cover. 10/10
br /If you keep on listening.....
br /15. Mystery. Quite a rocky number. Good still. 9/10

br /GRADE: 10/10
br /Alesha Dixon's debut album has similarities to Girls Aloud's albums, as she worked with the same people who produce GA's albums, Xenomania. Brilliant album.
A Thrilling Show! [Track by Track review] December 2, 2008 Bhaggers (United Kingdom) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
WELCOME TO THE ALESHA SHOW
br /Well isn't this a fab opener to the album - I do prefer the extended version, because it has some awesome lyrics like "iTunes straight to your iPhone" - I love it! This is something that I could see on "Fired Up" as well, cos it has that raw edginess that was present on Fired Up, but also the combination of the showmanship-ness (???) that is present on "The Alesha Show".
br /
br /LET'S GET EXCITED
br /Wow, the wow-ness keeps improving! This track is sooo strong, I really hope its released as a single because I can see the appeal in the song - it has the singing, a bit of the MCing and just all round happiness! I love the beat, its really poppy and sticks in your head for aages! The lyrics are yet again so silly and fun and 'tounge-in-cheek' - an album highlight in my opinion!
br /
br /BREATHE SLOW
br /This is such a beautiful epic song, and a terrific choice for the second single! I was like "WOW" after I heard it in full, its such a killer track! Soulshock Karlin really have done her justice and I hope that she works with them in the future. I can't wait for the Las-Vegas-y video, its gonna rule! The chorus is so catchy - I have to admit that Alesha has some really strong hooks on this record. Another album highlight - I love this to bits!
br /
br /CINDERELLA SHOE
br /This is one of those tracks that you gotta hate, but you actually love it to BITS! It reminds me of a really hip Betty Boop . It's a fun, bouncy track, which just puts a smile on your face (even though you are supposed to just go urgh and skip it, which I haven't done yet!). Its the marmite track on this album - you either hate it, or you love it - I'm of the latter!
br /
br /THE BOY DOES NOTHING
br /Well we all know this track - one of the strongest on the album and the best choice for the first single even though, it is not representative of the album as a whole. Great great song - puts a smile on my face!
br /
br /CHASING GHOSTS
br /This track was a grower for me. It was a bit of a letdown at first, but that's because it followed the stormer that is "TBDN". So when you listen to it by itself and treat it as an individual track, it is really hauntingly beautiful! It has that Duffy vibe, seeing as it's produced by her producer - Steve Brooker (or something like that). I love this song, its so addictive!
br /
br /PLAY ME
br /Oh. My. God. - This is the type of track that I wanted from Alesha! Frantic, fun, sassy and most of all addictive! This spells Alesha all over! I love it! This MUST be a single - I'd love to see a video for this song - I can't imagine what it would be like! An album highlight, definitely! I think this could be the "Ting-A-Ling" of this album.
br /
br /HAND IT OVER
br /I love the mixture of slow, merged into the faster section - its a killer! Lots of people are saying it would make a good single - but I don't think that radios would play something like this... A GREAT album track though - loveeerly!
br /
br /DO YOU KNOW THE WAY IT FEELS
br /Wow, this is epic - at first I thought it would be a bore, just because I don't think Alesha and ballads are a match made in heaven, but I think this is the exception. This is what "4 U I Will" was aiming to be - its a great emotional ballad - I looove!
br /
br /CAN I BEGIN
br /I thought Furtado's "All Good Things" came on for a sec when I first heard this - its a good track, not the best and not that strong - nice, midtempo, laid-back album track. It's not as good as the other midtempos like Breathe Slow and Don't Ever Let Me Go, but its not disastrous either. Middle of the road...
br /
br /ITALIANS DO IT BETTER
br /This song is amaaaaaaaaaaazing! It's the "Can't Speak French" - Alesha version! This is what "Voodoo" from 'Fired Up' should have been - its so seksi! Another highlight - Xenomania have done her justice! Genius, genius!
br /
br /OOH BABY I LIKE IT LIKE THAT
br /This is Camp-esha! Funky, disco, groovy pop! Even though it does sound like a Danni Minogue b-side, it has that Alesha flavour to it! However, I do think that it doesn't fit with some of the sounds previously heard on the album, but then again, its always the unexpected from Alesha!
br /
br /DON'T EVER LET ME GO
br /Great track - second best mid-tempo of the album (after Breathe Slow). She sounds really... happy! The chorus is so uplifting and positive, and it makes me happy listening to it hehe! It's like one of those tracks you play on lazy summer afternoons...
br /
br /I'M THRU
br /Is it me, or does it sounds christmassy at the beginning? Hmmm. Anyway, this is another middle-of-the-road track, its a good closer to the album, but the only thing I remember from it is the chorus. Maybe I need to listen to it more and feel the love (or not, as Alesha states "I'm thru with love...").. Oo-er.
br /
br /BONUS TRACK: MYSTERY
br /Why? Why was this not included in the main album - its is fan-bloody-tastic! It has that great mixture of MCing and singing. This track and "Play Me" were the sort of tracks I was looking forward to from Alesha, and she certainly delivered - but this track should've been earlier on in the album, and not a bonus. The bit that makes me laugh is the "g-g-g-g-gao-gao-gaaao" part.
br /
br /OVERALL RATING : 9.5/10
br /That part before the end of the album just had that little something missing... but all in all, my fave record of 2008!
I can't stop playing this album! January 12, 2009 A. Omu (uk) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I wasn't a fan of Mis-teeq when they were around, but I was enthralled by Alesha in 2007 when she starred in and won Strictly Come Dancing. As her dancing had given me so much pleasure, when I heard she had released an album I decided to support her, even though I imagined the album would be a cross between The Boy Does Nothing and her rapping in Mis-teeq. It took me about a month to get round to playing it and how wrong was I?
br /
br /It's a delightful mix of different influences, and so many of the songs are growers with hidden depths. I love Can I Begin, with its autobiographical lyrics and a melody which stays with you all day. Play Me is just as bonkers as Ms Dixon herself - in a good way - and Chasing Ghosts, my favourite, simply HAS to be a single! Her voice is angelic on Don't Ever Let Me Go, a lovely chill out song, and Italians Do It Better makes me smile whenever I hear it. I like the sassiness of Cinderella shoe and Let's Get Excited, although I think they are weaker than the other ones I mentioned. Breathe Slow, her next single, is brilliant at showing her off as a singer. I'm Thru is also well worth a listen.
br /
br /Low points for me are Ooh Baby I like It Like That and Hand It Over. But that's 2 out of 13, as even The Boy Does Nothing has grown on me!
br /
br /I cannot wait for her next album!
