Amazon.co.uk Review
The latest outing from former Destiny's Child starlet Beyonce is an intentionally schizophrenic affair. Splitting herself into two separate characters--herself and alter ego Sasha Fierce--is the artist's way of presenting what she obviously sees as an artistic duality. The first set, iI Am.../i is intended give a glimpse beneath the surface of her usual RB-pop persona. Featuring recent single "If I Was a Boy," the soaring "Halo", and ballads like "Disappear", and "Ave Maria", it seems her "real" self is way more saccharine than the lady that brought us sassy pop moments like "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy". That side of her personality comes rushing back out on iSasha Fierce/i, a more rousing collection that kicks off with the infectious handclaps of "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", ventures into Euro-dance territory with "Radio" and gets surprisingly risque with the voyeuristic "Video Phone". Which part of the album you enjoy most will depend on your musical proclivities, But the new, bifurcated Beyonce ensures there's enough diversity to satisfy the most demanding pop aficionado. i--Danny McKenna/i

5 out of 5 stars Beyonce, and beyond   December 29, 2008

Got to admit I'm biased 'cos I believe Beyonce Knowles to be one of the most stunningly beautiful women on this planet! I bought this album as a 2-CD De-luxe edition for £9.99. The first CD is slower, more melodic with hypnotic sounds and Beyonce's vocal talents very much in evidence. There are some really well-written songs on here with excellent arrangements. 'Satellites' had a kind of 'West End Show' gloss and polish about it, a total surprise for me, I had always enjoyed Beyonce's vocals but I had under-estimated her abilities! (doesn't help that she looks SO amazing that sometimes it can distract from the performance). It took me quite a while re-playing CD 1 before I got to CD 2 but that was only a reflection of my enjoyment of said CD. Liked 'Single ladies/put a ring on it' but the rest wasn't exactly my taste, could be my age! However, I'd still give this CD an overall 4 and a half out of five. Beyonce IS AMAZING and anybody who suggests she semi-retires should get their ears syringed and pop into Specsavers to get their eyes tested. Beyonce is HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Sasha Fierce, better than Beyonce   December 16, 2008

'Dangerously in love' aside, Beyonce hasn't had a great run of albums. She has improved ten-fold with 'I am...'. I'm not a big lover of 'Diva' or 'Video phone' but 'Radio' and 'Single ladies' are fabulous fast tracks, especially the latter - so catchy! The stand out tracks from this album have to be the ballads 'If I were a boy' and 'Halo'. 'Halo' is a truly amazing song and the reason why I bought the album hands down. Sasha Fierce has reaffrimed my love for Beyonce and seeing her on X-Factor goes to prove that she deserves to be a star. She didn't lip-sync, she put on a crowd-pleasing show and showed genuine appreciation for being on there, unlike one Ms Spears....

3 out of 5 stars Abit dissapointing...   January 10, 2009

I've been a huge Beyonce fan since Destinys Child first appeared years ago, but I must say I am quite dissapointed with this album. Some songs are really good - namely the first two singles, 'If I Were A Boy' and 'Single Ladies'.. also love 'Radio', but Video Phone and Diva sound like she's forgotten she's an RnB / Soul singer. br /I prefer Beyonce to 'Sasha Fierce' and hope she drops the alter ego thing for her next album! br /Generally I feel the CD doesn't mix well.. It would be hard to put the album into a genre, as half of it are really slow ballads, and the other half is really cheesy over done RnB. br /Still don't regret buying it, but if you're not a big Beyonce fan, it probably isn't for you.
