5 out of 5 stars What A Fab collection of Songs!   April 7, 2009

Congratulations to EMI Records LTD for the release of this B-sides collection. Originally this formed part of the mammoth collection `And they said it wouldn't last' and it still does. But for a budget price, a lot of fans can finally listen to Cliff's very rare B-sides 1963-1989 compilation. br / br /The sound quality on these 2008 remasters is 10/10. br / br /The tracks are: br / br /1. Say you're mine (mono) . A real pleasant song to listen to. B-side to `Don't talk to him' from 1963. br /2. True, true lovin' (mono). A thumping great tune from 1964. Sadly it is unlikely a stereo master exists or was not originally mixed back in 1964. B-side to `Constantly' br /3. Just another guy (mono). This song was recorded in Nashville along with it's A-side `The minute you're gone'. Interestingly the backing vocals were `The Jordanaires'. Why does it appear in mono?? The original master is in stereo as it appears on overseas compilations. br /4. Just a little bit too late (stereo) br /5. Somebody loses (stereo). br /6. I get the feelin' (stereo) br /7. Our story book (stereo). I'm not so sure about this song, it's my least favourite. br /8. Sweet little Jesus boy (First time stereo release). I never heard this original Cliff version of this song before. Personally I found Cliff's simple acoustic version on `About that Man' album much powerful in conveying the words. This B-side orchestrated version did put me to sleep. Really. I'm sure other listeners will love this b-side version. br /9. Occasional rain (mono). I love this song. Though why wasn't the stereo master used? It exists!! br /10. She's leaving you (stereo) br /11. So long (stereo). A wonderful song. B-side to `With the eyes of a child'. br /12. Monday comes too soon (stereo). B-side to `I ain't got time anymore' this beautiful tune is one of my favourite tracks in this CD collection. This 3rd 1970 UK vinyl single of Cliff Richard was also released in stereo. br /13. I was only fooling myself (stereo). Originally released in stereo, coupled with `Don't move away'. As the then fashionable Maxi-single. This was the b-side to the smash hit song `Sunny honey girl' in 1971. br /Tracks 14 15: Time flies Annabella Umbrella are terrific tunes that compliments the ecological A-side `Silvery rain'. They both appear in stereo on the CD compilation though they have already on other UK/Holland LP compilations in 1971 1973 (UK's Cliff Richard Story Boxed set) br /16. Pigeon (First time stereo release ever). This is my all time favourite b-side of any Cliff Richard single. What a fab upbeat sound from 1971. B-side to another great tune `Flying machine'. I always wondered if `Pigeon' was the A-side, this might have been a massive hit in 1971. br / br /All the singles released after `Flying Machine' were all stereo. br /17. A Thousand Conversations. br /18. Mr Cloud br /19. Empty Chairs br /20. The old Accordion. A really good song. But for some strange reason this is not the original b-side but a different Take. A chorus is repeated and the heavy drum thump that plays continuous is missing as it is heard in the original b-side. br /21. Come back Billie Jo. br /22. I only know I love you (stereo). This is an alternate b-side to `Constantly' released in Italy. Not so sure why this song was released on this CD compilation. I would have preferred the stereo issue b-side `What would I do' to `Visions' (1966) or `Mr Nice' (1968). These songs have yet to surface in stereo on CD. The `mono' release of `What would I do' appears on `Finders Keepers' CD as a bonus track. br /23. Back in Vaudeville. B-side to `Baby you're dynamite' from 1983. br /Tracks 24 25: `Stronger than that' `I just don't have the heart' are both extended versions b-sides to the 12" singles. An interesting choice to end this superb CD compilation. Perhaps a future venture for a Cliff's 12" singles CD collection. br / br /Either you like Cliff Richard 1963-1989 period of songs particularly the late 60s early 70s or you don't. Either way Cliff's style of music here is so versatile. This demonstrates what a wide vocal range he has. It is well displayed in these then forgotten, but now available b-sides tracks. br /

Love these songs which we don't hear out of many other CDs. Anyway any Cliff's CD is a treasure to collect and this one is a good one for your collection.

It was interesting hearing songs that havent been released before by Sir Cliff, who is amazing as a singer and person, and wonder if they would have been hits at the time too.

As a Cliff fan you will appreciate any work that Cliff has been involved with, and you may already have this item in your collection. If you do not, this gives you the opportunity to hear songs that were created at the same time as the hits that were on the A side of the record. There is a definite correlation age wise between the two and similarities between hits can be detected. It's like discovering some old treasure that's been hidden away for many years. A joy to listen to and because the songs were so short in those days, a great number to enjoy on one disc. I only heard about this album through recommendation from a friend. I now recommend it to you.
