In For The Kill April 16, 2009 Cazz Blase 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This masterpiece of minimalist electro pop, combined with the impassioned and eerily high vocals of Elly Jackson, is so bang on trend that I'm expecting it to feature as a soundtrack to an 'Ashes To Ashes' trailer any day now. As both the song and the sleeve suggest, the early eighties are very much alive and well, and the resulting sound and imagery are inkeeping with the period without being unhealthily derivative. The 'Let's Get Ravey' remix, whilst good, doesn't really 'get' ravey until about a minute to the end, but don't let it put you off.

WHAT A FABULOUS CATCHY SONG IT COULD HAVE EASILY COME OUT IN THE 1980S BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU PLAY IT IN THE CAR YOU WILL WANT IT SO LOUD YOU MIGHT END UP BLOWING UP THE SPEAKERS GO ON BUY IT.

Rating stands only for the b-side, Skream's remix. The La Roux song is a piece of functional, if uninspiring, sub-Eurythmics elecropop; the Let's Get Ravey remix, on the other hand, is Song of the Year material. Minimal, sparse, bass-heavy and.. incredible.

La Roux has such a unique and fantastic voice that I'm so jealous! It's a great single and a good remix to go with it. Defiantly someone to watch in the future, we've not heard the last of her.
