| Customer Reviews: Volta Revisited - Live, Videos and Remixes - Absolutely Stunning June 2, 2009 endlessharmony (bristol) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great collection for Bjork fans especially for those that liked the Volta album. The set contains 2 CDs and 2 DVDs. The first CD is Bjork's live set from the Olympia Studios in London and is primarily live versions of songs from the 'Volta' album with also a few older tracks in the setlist including 'Pagan Poetry', 'Army Of Me' and 'Hunter'. The second CD is a set of remixes of tracks from the 'Volta' album some of which take you back to the days of House music, all weird but truly wonderful. The DVDs include the official videos from 'Volta' and also the 9 videos that were runner's up in the video competition and these are all amazing to watch. The final DVD includes live performances from Paris and Reykjavik shows. The packaging is outatanding but at the same time frustrating and is similar to the front opening Volta deluxe album. It has lots inner units that slot together and hold the 4 discs and a double sided poster. On the whole this is a great collection and shows what a great arists Bjork is either live, on video or remixed and demonstrates why she is so different to any other artist. A truly great boxset and a special mention should be included for the fans for making the videos.
Another box of Treasures for fans and music lovers alike June 19, 2009 Joseph Devine (Peterborough, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bjork is an artist who takes great pride archiving and documenting her career, and this is the latest in her series of live presentations.
br /Like the wonderful Live Box of a few years ago (which collected recordings from 4 world tours and was followed several individual dvds of memorable concerts) this is a multi disc/format collection of wonders, this time focusing solely on her latest world tour.
br /Whether you liked her latest album Volta or not, the Volta tour itself cannot be faulted. Lasting nearly 2 years and featuring one of her best collaborative bands yet, it was a spectacular, elegant and breathtakingly grand and theatrical stage show. Emphasis was not given solely to new material and many of her older classic songs were completely rearranged and beefed up to fit the bombastic Voltaic sound; Big beats, booming bass and bold brass!
br /The live DVD is the best of the four discs by far, featuring two concerts, one from Paris (breathtaking and magical) and another more chilled acoustic set in a church in Reykjavik which is very beautiful (although it's far too short) and focuses on the slower more intricate songs from Medulla and Volta. Songs that got left out of the main tour's set lists in favour of the more beat driven livelier stuff. It's lovely to see songs rarely performed done so well, and in such a sacred setting.
br /The live session album is very good as well, although hearing live tracks in a studio is a bit odd as there is obviously no crowd sounds which is a big part of the atmosphere of a live album, but think of it as your own private concert with no crowd.
br /The other dvd features the music videos, three of which are great, two of which not so great in comparison to the quality Bjork usually puts out, but then again, these in particular (Innocence/Dull Flame) were made by fans on very low budget so they should be viewed in this context.
br /Then there is a remix compilation featuring the best of the many DJ reworkings. Highlights being the Spank Rock, Modeselektor, and SMD versions, which being a DJ myself I can safely say get a room full of people going nicely mental! The weird eerie and chilled Ratatat remix of Wanderlust is also beautiful.
br /All in all, there is plenty to keep you amused and entertained, and you will find yourself going back to the live DVD time and time again (especially if you were lucky enough to attend one of the tour shows, as you'll be getting nostalgic) and on top of that the packaging itself is a work of art too! So a big thumbs up. The only disappointing thing is how delayed this release has been, but now that it is here, it was worth the wait!
