4 out of 5 stars Glad to see someone cast aside the brick   September 4, 2009

Lily Allen delivers a catchy, quirky song with a real sense of fun. The subject-matter and lyrics are grubby enough to warrant a radio edit on FM stations which happily fill the airwaves with expletives, which is saying something. But delivering a song about premature ejaculation, of all topics, in the cute manner of a CW ballad - supported by a suitably daggy-looking film clip - shows how a serve of humour and subtlety can help you to get away with anything. Gangsta Rap artists, heavy metallists, shock pop queens and the like could learn a lesson about how to use your brains rather than your body when creating art. There's too little cleverness in popular music of any genres, too little wry humour. As a single, this track deserves to retain its place over time as one of those off-beat songs that you can hardly believe was released, let alone became widely popular, but of course only briefly in the manner of our disposable culture. It is the only Lily Allen disc I have purchased - thanks Amazon - and helps to remind me that there is still a place for single CDs for artists you don't particularly follow but who release a song you like and want to keep, withuot the limitations of storing it on an iPod/laptop.
