A Glorious Return May 25, 2009 Mr. R. Mayou (Solihull, England) 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
This album will come as a surprise to many, fans and in the industry.
br /With this I am addressing all those who wrote Marilyn Manson off as a
br /good artist. Admittedly neither GOAG or eat me drink me were as good as
br /what had gone before in the last 3 albums and even retirement from music had been suggested in many quarters. I will say this straight up. This is Marilyn Mansons best album since Mechanical Animals. Even better than Holy Wood which I love as a complete work. An album that will fly in the face of his many critics with all the pomp, controversy and brashness we came to expect from Manson many years ago. Even featuring arguably his best ever track in "I want to kill you like they do in the movies". For a fan of Mansons since 2001 and a huge fan of The Antichrist Superstar trilogy it is an absolute unmittigated pleasure to say Marilyn Manson is back.
Four and a half stars May 29, 2009 James Moffatt (England) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is not his best in my opnionion, that will always be Holywood. But High End of Low does sound like a Marilyn Manson album... but do not expect a heavy, Antichrist album. This is by far Manson's slowest work and it will not be to all Manson fans tastes.
br /
br /When listening to this through I am reminded of Mechanical Animals and Portrait, it is difinitely a Manson album, which Eat me Drink me did not feel like (an album that I like in its own right but not what you'd expect from Manson).
br /
br /I do advise try before you buy approach but I am already really liking this album on my first listen, especially 15 coz it sounds kinda Perfect Circle like (people will probably disagree with me there). The album also welcomes back electronic industrial sounds that were lost on Golden Age and as a result it is quite refreshing.
br /
br /It makes me happy that not every fan loves all his albums because at least the man tries new things! Which is rare with some bands that just release the same album but with a few changes.
br /
br /For the next album I would like Manson to move on though, for the weakest part of his last albums have been the lyrics because he has become too caught up in himself. But he has stated within interviews that The High End of Low in the conclusion to this dodgy part of his life, the album that helped him move on. So hopefully on the next album he will deal with bigger pictures in his lyrics like he did on Antichrist, Mechanical and Holywood.
br /
br /In short, not his best but I will be listening to it for a very very long time and loving it. THIS IS NOT A HEAVY ALBUM! (I disagree with another reviewer saying Kill you like they do in the Movies is the best track, I think it is easily the worst and drags, just shows that all reviews, even btwo with five stars differ :D)
The High End Of Low June 5, 2009 W. WALKER (UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The High End of Low is mansons best album since the golden age of grotesque. eat me drink me was an album manson had to make to get his feelings out and yes it was the correct way to do it but it was not the greatest album manson had ever done in his career.
br /
br /The high end of low starts off with devour which starts of like a manson album should slow and then kicks in to action in true manson and ramirez style. The album is full of this and many tracks are absolutely brilliant.
br /
br /The return of Twiggy Ramirez to the band makes this album even better as manson and ramirez together are an unstopable force which makes this album so powerfull and magnificent.
br /
br /recomended to anyone who likes any of mansons work.
A welcome return to form. May 21, 2009 Lee Wileman (Leamington Spa) 3 out of 9 found this review helpful
As a long time Marilyn Manson fan I must admit I was a little dubious as to what to expect from this latest release but from the moment I pressed play I was spellbound, it is everything you could ask for and more! Essential purchase.
