What pop and dance music have been waiting for May 10, 2009 Andromeda Descendent (Tarn Vedra) 27 out of 40 found this review helpful
Finally Little Boots' debut album has been released! As a long-term fan, in as much as I've been waiting six months for her debut, I already knew a lot of the songs on here - and was so pleased to discover that every track on the album is as great as I'd hoped.

br /Victoria Hesketh (singer songwriter and a.k.a. Little Boots) is a breath of fresh air to the airwaves. Her music feels modern and experimental, whilst at the same time there is also a definite nostalgia there for the pop rather than dance focussed synth of the 90s. Take the electronic side away and you get something fairly reminiscent of Saint Etienne mixed with Dubstar. Listening to the album as a whole for the first time it also brought back memories of the Human League, so when Phil Oakley's voice suddenly came in on the fantastic duet Symmetry, I thought I must have died because I suddenly found myself transported to musical heaven. This is a great album from start to (hidden track) finish. All the songs are catchy pop/synth numbers with some really great hooks to them, and I can see this album being really big really soon.

br /If you want to hear more of the tracks before you buy, check out the Little Boots website - as Victoria makes really great use of homemade videos. Not just that, but she's great live and treats her fans with the utmost generosity and respect. Strong contender for pop album of the year.
Must have album of 2009 June 6, 2009 Thrud Fan (London, UK) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Pre ordered the album from the Little Boots web site and the postman delivered it the Saturday before it was issued!
br /First thoughts are that it's all I hoped it would be. A nice collection dance tunes, ballads and even a duet with Philip Oakey.
br /The lyrics are clever, well written and well sung and the tunes are well put together.
br /The only one I'm not too keen on is the mix of Meddle (I prefer the You Tube version without the yeahs.)
br /My favourites are Mathematics, Ghost, New in Town and the the lovely sort of title track which comes at the end of the 12th track.
br /
br /From the interviews I've seen of Boots she's a very genuine person more interested in making great music than headlines which is a refreshing change today.
br /In short a very good début album and an artist to watch watch for the future.
br /PS see her live if you can.
Superb from start to finish!!! June 4, 2009 Mandy Moore (Bristol) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've been following Little Boots AKA Victoria Hesketh since the dead disco days and seen her perform many times growing in confidence and heard the songs on this album in their creation at different stages. The end result is slickly produced pop songs written and recorded by Little Boots herself and co-written on a couple of ocassion with some help but this truly is what great pop is about, the hype was just right, not too in your face and the album lives up to it, she truly is the sound of 2009!!! The album has so many highlights, the dance anthems, the big pop songs, a couple of rnb moments, a bit of human league in there and even a piano ballad closer showing where Boots has come from and her skills never end!! If you are thinking about buying this then the decision is already made. Be part of something special and support this fantastic new artist. A review I read said somewhere between roisin murphy/goldfrapp and kylie/britney. Says it all really. Either side of the coin are great with me, fits in the middle doing both is perfect!!! Bring on the next tour and album number 2!!! The album review was based on the myspace streaming of the full album, so 100% genuine review.
You've got me stuck on repeat June 20, 2009 Basil (Middlewich, Cheshire) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of the best electro/pop albums I've heard in ages.
br /I first became aware of Boots on Jools Holland on New Year's Eve and have been eagerly waiting for this album.
br /
br /Solid pop from start to finish. There are several tracks here that deserve to be singles and would chart well.
br /
br /Little Boots loves her synths - and it shows! The songs are brilliantly constructed pieces of electro music.
br /
br /There's also a hidden track 'Hands' at the end of the album. A more acoustic piece - just Boots piano - and again shows off this talented musician to be more than just another pop signer.
