5 out of 5 stars Managing The Risk   June 8, 2009
The Wolf (uk)

Reinvention cannot take place without some degree of risk. br /BEP have taken risks aplenty with their latest release 'The End' br /("The Energy Never Dies") and the results are hugely satisfying. br / br /The slinky shift from all purpose polished pan-world pop br /to a harder-edged synthetic sound has come as a nice surprise. br / br /Mr. am and his cohorts seem very much at home in their new br /reincarnation. They will doubtless lose some of their hardcore br /devotees but for those with a more open mind and ears there are br /many pleasures to be found in this generous sixteen song collection. br / br /In 'Meet Me Halfway', with its dance-friendly beat and seductive central br /vocal performance from the inimitable Ms Ferguson, is as near-perfect br /a pop song as you will be likely to hear this summer. br / br /'One Tribe', with its naive but sincere one-world message is a positive br /anthem for the noughties - no bad thing in such dark times ! br / br /One can almost imagine some of these compositions having been conceived br /in whatever the transatlantic equivalent to a suburban bedroom might be. br /Relatively simple resources economically and effectively employed. br / br /Technology harnessed to refined and competent pop sensibility comes together br /in rousing form in what is arguably the album's finest track 'Gotta Feeling'. br /If it doesn't make you feel like dancing then you haven't got a heart. br /(Mrs Wolf proudly demonstrated her recently acquired pole-dancing class skills br /to me with this number - a truly perfect wonder to behold !) br / br /I have never been a big fan of synthesised vocal treatments but somehow they br /seem to work here when managed by songsmiths of such strong talent and calibre. br /'Alive' is a vividly realised case in point. The balance between br /artifice and reality is consummately managed. Ms F once again on top form. br / br /'Missing You' manages to combine the gritty urban-groove of its loping br /verses with a Motown-like chorus of uplifting and genuinely affecting pathos. br / br /All-in-all a thoroughly splendid show from a fine little band br /who took a chance in flying off in a new direction. br / br /The evidence supports the view that it was a risk more than worth taking. br / br /Highly Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars The end of the old sound   June 13, 2009

This may not be a popular view, but every time a BEP album comes out I think it's fresh and new, but a year later I can't be bothered with it because it sounds a bit stale to me. Could be that by naming themselves after food, the Black Eyed Peas have got it spot on - as they are masters at producing fresh new sounds, which (in my opinion) have no longevity to them. If you think I'm talking rubbish by saying this, they've actually acknowledged this is true themselves in a commitment they have made to keep shaking up the production of the tracks on this album and coming up with newer versions through their website. br / br /So then, I find myself yet again loving a new BEP album and wondering if this time it'll last. br / br /This album changes style dramatically, and many people won't like it - but probably just as many people will love it. Boom Boom Pow is not a fluke - the BEPs have definitely gone down the synth/dance route - although there are still moments where the old BEPs of Elephunk hang on. br / br /I agree with The Wolf's review, as I think he puts it very well. br / br /Standout tracks for me include Boom Boom Pow, Imma Be, Missing You and Meet Me Halfway.

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC - CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT.   July 13, 2009

The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies) Bought this CD last week and I absolutely love it. Just been cooking dinner and can't stop dancing to it. It's really upbeat, intelligent and certainly feelgood music. I love their other albums too, but this has a new edge and that's what makes it worth a listen to. I'm always looking for something new and this doesn't disappoint. All the songs are really catchy - give it a try!

5 out of 5 stars Change isn't always a bad thing!.....   August 27, 2009

....And this album is an example of that. As we expect there are many filler songs, yet all listenable. I applause BEP for there change in sound and their image. I feel that they have now realised that as they are getting old so was their original music. I think that they have cleverly got the dance anthems down to a "T" and that choosing popular DJ's to produce their music is always a good start. If you are a BEP fan then buy the album, if you are only keen on the singles and are looking for the rest of the album to be similar then i would buy the songs individually online, that way you won't be disappointed.
