Variation on a theme. Great stuff and very worthwhile.

br /When our Rodders brought out *Atlantic Crossing* and *A Night on The Town* all those years ago, they were instant classics and the boy sure done good, which was great for us. Since then he's gone a bit la-di-da but what the heck. These new 2CD compo of original and alternates is a brilliant idea. What it shows is just how good and perceptive the guys were who released the original albums. They were the best cuts by far. That said it's always lovely to hear variations from the original artist and these are deserving of purchase in their own right. What is also clear is the originals have been touched up in that Rods voice is so clear and pronounced in these tracks, it really stands out on it's own. Another great plus I'd say.

br /If you liked the originals you will love these for sure.

br /As for Rodders? God Bless you my son for bringing all back home to me :)

Well worth a listen whilst on the boat! August 19, 2009 Mr. Paul Edwards (Leics. UK.) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Another classic Rod Stewart album; well worth a few listens before casting judgement. It certainly grows on the listener the more you play it.
br /Give it a try!
Alright for an Hour August 23, 2009 Graham Chapman (London) I had hoped for more from this Collector's Edition. For example the recent special edition of Bowie's Young Americans had two unreleased songs, both of which were terrific. The new songs on Rod's CD, however, with Rod and Booker T, are rather dull and didn't seem to fit in with the original album (Bowie's songs could easily have been included in the original album and would have added to it.)
br /
br /Rod's 'Collector's Edition' also has plenty of alternate versions, which are not significantly different to the versions that appeared on the original. It is not like some of the early versions of Beatles songs on the Anthology record where you can hear the origins of great songs.
br /
br /This is a nice album, one of Rod's best, but if you have it already, I don't think the 'special' edition is worth the purchase.
