A 3-disc set that truly lives up to its monumental title! July 31, 2009 Mr. K (UK) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
The set is a celebration of the Kylie of the 1960s! Yes, I am talking about Cilla Black who between 1963 and 1978 was also signed to Parlophone/EMI. She was during this time one of the label's most successful recording acts. This career-spanning compilation includes all of Cilla's Top 40 hits, highlights from all her EMI studio albums and best of all for the fans a nice bumper batch of collectibles (some tracks which debut on CD and six of which are previously unreleased). The icing on the cake of this release and probably its biggest selling point is CB's first ever music DVD. The REGION FREE/PAL DVD features stunning live performances from the archives at BBC TV filmed between 1964 and 1976.
br /
br /A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: THE MAJORITY OF THE ORIGINAL BBC VIDEO TAPES CONTAINING CILLA'S PERFORMANCES FROM THE 1960S HAD BEEN SADLY WIPED. ALL CONCERNED HOWEVER WERE THRILLED TO STILL FIND MANY GEMS FROM CILLA'S SIXTIES POP PEAK AS WELL AS SOME EQUALLY STUNNING CLIPS FROM THE SEVENTIES!
br /
br /Also watch out for Cilla's new remixed single of SOMETHING TELLS ME and a new album of remixes (aka CILLA ALL MIXED UP) which is due out also on the 7 September 2009.
fab new cilla package August 19, 2009 Mr. A. Thomas 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
cilla black the fab singer from yestayear, she had loads of hits during the 60s and early 70s,unfortunatly cilla was/is so good at her craft that tv stardom/fame seems to of eclipsed her singing days,im 38 and remember cilla during the 80s 90s doing tv showsvery well i might add, remember hearing her on the radio in the 90s and i couldnt believe it was miss cilla black on the telly -what a great voice-WOW,ive been a fan since, forget cilla singing suprise suprise, these songs are greeaat, seen her in panto 8 months ago-the voice is still there-love you cilla x.
This really is "The Definitive Collection" September 4, 2009 Jake M (England) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Excellent new release from Cilla!! 50 great tracks (hits, album highlights and rarities). Each song is prove that Cilla Black is a excellent vocalist and should be remembered first and foremost as a 60s/70s pop star.
br /Of course, the DVD is the real highlight of this set, a great selection of performances. Cilla's best loved hits, plus duets and covers from her TV shows, the Royal Variety Performance etc..., spanning the 60s and 70s!
br /Mr. Stephen Munns should be congratulated on this excellent work in bringing this set out.
BLACK GOLD September 8, 2009 K. Johansen (Scotland) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
People like me who were teenagers in the 60's remember those great musical times, infact I first saw Cilla onstage in the 60's and she was fantastic.
br /
br /Listening to all her songs again brings it back just how good she was and of course the icing on the cake of this new set is the DVD, which proves just how Cilla matured as a performer from the first performance on the dvd (1964) to later performances in the 70's.
br /
br /Many of the performances I had forgotten about but I did remember Cilla singing 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover and it was really good to see that again.
br /
br /Cilla recorded a lot of good songs and she had a lot of hits, I know EMI have released her old albums on download only but she deserved to have them released on cd, they owed her that much. Over the years the entire back catalogues of Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Sandie Shaw Kiki Dee have been released on cd with the exception of Kiki's Fontana material. It would have been a nice gesture for CIlla's anniversary to have had her cd's alongside her contemporaries in the record stores.
great collection September 16, 2009 yorkguy (york, uk) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great collection by an underrated pop diva. Excellent value as it includes some great dvd clips - pity about the ponsey men in the 70's clips though. George Martin's intro is warm but measured. Great package showcasing the range and versatility of a great star.
