Thanks, Bob October 14, 2009 C. Wright (UK) 24 out of 27 found this review helpful
Listening to this album is like hearing each of these very well-known songs for the first time. Dylan is a great interpreter of song and it is proved yet again on this collection. He is like the wizened old man in a pub, playing the piano while everyone gathers round. It's brilliantly played, produced, performed... plus it's fun, sentimental, sweet, sincere, classy and FUNNY (one of Dylan's most under appreciated talents is his humour).

br /So why all the fuss? Not that I object to a little bewilderment, but it's hilarious to see how wound up his 'fans' get, instead of just appreciating that Bob Dylan is ALIVE and RECORDING nearly 50 YEARS after his first album!

he loves this music October 17, 2009 chris the driver (england) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
clearly Bob loves this music;he adds the right amount of nostalgia to these much loved songs.i know his voice is something to get used to;and at times on this album he sings ones that are beyond his range;and are a little embarrassing, but overall i love this album
From Santa to Sherlock October 14, 2009 K. L. Smith (United Kingdom) 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed this, his voice is razor-blade sharp (i.e. totally shot) but somehow it all works..shame he couldn't use his 'Nashville Skyline' voice instead though. After the drab, weak 'Together Through Life' this is his best since the classic 'Love Theft'. The backing singers sound great, like Elvis's Christmas albums it has a lovely charm about it, with royalties going to feed the poor and hungry I dont want to hear moaners slagging this album off...dont see many other 'Superstars' doing anything similar with their millions. 'Christmas Blues' is great, so is 'Must be Santa' his best 'rave-up' since 'Rainy Day Women'. Yes it cranky and off-kilter, but Bob has always been that way. Rumour has it that his next release will be 'Bob Dylan Reads the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' an audio-book apparently (Bob is a huge fan of the detective) if so I will be the first to buy a copy. Merry Christmas Bob!
Groove Is In The Heart October 1, 2009 Dave Gilmour's cat (on Dave Gilmour's boat) 21 out of 30 found this review helpful
Bob gets out the tinsel and has a party. This album is great fun and very warm-hearted. And it's for a very good cause. It would be a mean-hearted scrooge indeed who could not enjoy this in the run up to the festive season. Well done to Bob for surprising everyone yet again.

br /OK, some people would rather he had recorded a full-length LP of new, original songs. But Dylan's amazing phrasing, his older-than-the-mountains voice and his unique spirit are all well to the fore here. Don't forget that Dylan has always loved singing old songs (see his first LP, then Self Portrait, Good As I Been To You, World Gone Wrong and the Never Ending Tour). This album continues to display Bob's love of (re)interpreting old songs.

br /Furthermore, Bob's voice is sounding better than it has for ages. He's really loosened up his singing and got into the spirit of the thing. He goes for the high notes and hits more of them than you might expect.

br /This record was obviously recorded with a great love for the music of a simpler, more innocent time. A sort of tribute to the Bing Crosby era of popular song, its good-natured tones make me feel warm inside.

br /Keep an open mind and let Bob delight you with this delightful left turn: 'Christmas In The Heart' will make you smile and brighten up your winter.
Thanks Bob and Merry Christmas!!! October 29, 2009 N. Kelly (Europe) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
br /It is what it is, Bob Dylan - doing Christmas songs for charity and having fun doing it along the way, and I for one really enjoyed the outcome. This is a nostalgic and fun recording, which I'll certainly enjoy playing while putting up the Christmas tree lights and drinking some good whiskey.
