5 out of 5 stars Superb Weezer Tunes   November 12, 2009
J. Charles (England)
Another great album from Weezer. Every track is really catchy with no fillers. Great melodies as usual. Put Me Back together, 'I'm Your Daddy' and 'I Don't Want To Let you Go' are probably the stand out tracks. br /Of course it's not as stunning as 'Make Believe' but how many albums by any band in the last decade is?

5 out of 5 stars Quality work from a fantastic band!   November 13, 2009
Reviewer
As mentioned before, I can't understand why this album is getting a slating. After reading a couple of reviews I was wondering if Weezer were on the downward spiral (ok, some people say they have been for a while). br /But, having listened to the album quite a few times now I find it very easy to get into and filled with good tunes. br /Nothing too deep in there and I doubt it will last the test of time to the extent of some of their earlier albums, Blue Album being the obvious example. br /However, they move into a couple of new directions with rap and a twist of Asian music but they integrate wonderfully into the Weezer style. br /Definite buy if you are a Weezer fan and don't expect the world of them, in which case you are most likely to be disappointed by any work they bring out. br /If youve not listened to Weezer, where have u been??? But seriously, give it a go, will open you upto one of the greatest bands of all time in my opinion.

4 out of 5 stars 7 Albums In And Still Going Strong...   November 3, 2009

I don't really understand why this album has been getting the bashing it has, sure it's no Blue Album or Pinkerton but at this point I don't think we'll ever get another album from Weezer like those again, so instead of comparing it to them go into this with an open mind and if you want to compare it to any other of their albums compare it to Make Believe and The Red Album. br / br /After listening to this album about 5 times all the way through I can tell you that it's a good listen, of course like most albums it has weak points but more strong points than anything. It's catchy punk pop at its finest and defiantly an improvement over Make Believe and The Red Album. Weezer have tried more experimenting with this album which is always a refreshing change, most bands sound the same on every album and through their entire careers and after 4 or 5 albums you've heard it all before. This is what I love about Weezer they have provided 7 albums that all have there own unique qualities about them, and you can be sure when picking up a new Weezer album for the first time there will always be a new feeling to it. br / br /One problem I have is the name of the album, I know the name isn't that important but most songs talk about girls (break ups/hook ups) so I'm not sure what made them think of Raditude? br / br /In conclusion this is a solid album and will sit well on my shelf with all my other Weezer albums, so if you do decide to pick this album up please don't go comparing it to the Blue Album and Pinkerton, go into it with an open mind and enjoy the catchy punk pop sound.

4 out of 5 stars Weezer still as catchy as ever   November 9, 2009

I feel this album is misunderstood its never going to be a pinkerton or blue. Weezer are a band that always changing and this albums no different for me some of the songs are catchy and poppy with melodies that stay in your head for ages. Not everyone gets weezer but those that do are always in for a treat they bring a smile to my face with their infectious choruses and tunes. There are weaker points to the album such as cant stop partying and love is the answer but the rest i feel is vintage sunny weezer.

I'm writing as a music fan not as a Weezer fan which I stopped being after "Maladroit". As a music fan this record is awful. Not just bland power pop but even shallower. Like if power pop bred with rap and the worst elements of both were merged, this would be the result. Seriously, I thought "Maladroit" was the nadir and that they'd have turned it around by then but that was a high point for them compared to this. br / br /Let's not even listen to the music first, let's look at the titles. "Raditude", "The Girl Got Hot", "Can't Stop Partying", "In the Mall" - I have to stop, I'm laughing too much. Seriously, this feels like a bad joke or an elaborate hoax thats all part of a mockumentary or something. Did a 12 year old write the titles and then Rivers had to write the music to fit? br / br /So anyway onto the music. Basically Weezer stopped sounding like Weezer when the Green album came out. The soulful guitar melodies, catchy hooks, energetic solos, and imaginative arrangements went out of the window in favour of shallow horndog songs about luv. And they've been moving in that direction now for 9 years. The result is trance music included in "I'm Your Daddy" and a rap from Lil Wayne (whoever he is) in the laughably bad "Can't Stop Partying". "Love is the Answer" has sitar strings and is Weezer crossed with Indian music - yes its as bad as it sounds. Remember the wee-oos of Buddy Holly or oo oo oos of The Sweater Song? In the least memorable song on here "Turn Me Round" Rivers is singing hoo hoo hoo and it doesn't fit. The old sounds of Weezer don't gel with the overpolished and soulless guitar sounds they have now. br / br /And finally the worst of all - the lyrics. Yes, if you thought "The Green Album" was bad with nearly every song having love in the title and part of the chorus, well you ain't seen shallow yet. Arguably music is there to plumb the depths of the soul. That might sound pretentious but at its best music exposes real emotion and lifts your spirit, even opens your eyes. Blue Album and Pinkerton did both. "Raditude" takes a turd and polishes it. From "Can't Stop Partying", Rivers sings br / br /I can't stop partying, partying br /I can't stop partying, partying br /I gotta have Patron, I gotta have the e br /I gotta have a lot of pretty girls around me br / br /In "Let It All Hang Out" he sings about his homies and "In the Mall" (yes a song about being in the mall) he sings about going to the mall. Can you imagine anyone singing "The Girl Got Hot" without being smashed out of their head? "I Don't Want to Let You Go" is arguably the dullest sounding song on here having all the emotion of a cup of tea while the others I haven't mentioned I've forgotten, they were that boring and forgettable. Basically it sounds like your uncle trying to sound cool. Saying homies. Aaah. Imagine Kevin Spacey's character from American Beauty. That's that character personified in a record. This record. br / br /I'm not saying I'm heartbroken as I've not been a Weezer fan for many years and by the sounds of it I never will be again. But I will say that there are much better records out there at the moment. Eels are an old band too (mid 90s anyway) but they've just put out one of their best records of their career "Hombre Lobo". Aimee Mann gets better with each record as does Ben Kweller and Richard Ashcroft while more people are discovering the beauty of Elliott Smith's music. As a Weezer fan though I'd say go back and listen to the glory years of Blue and Pinkerton. None of the songs on this record even hold a candle to their old B-sides "Suzanne", "I Just Threw Out The Love of My Dreams" or "Jamie". br / br /So long Weezer. You were great once.
