Brigette Jones for the Naughties.... May 3, 2009 B.Right.On (Brighton) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a cracking read from Jordan's ghost writer. More grown up than the Jordan novels but just as entertaining, witty, sexy and emotional. youi're with Valentine all the way, sharing her ups, downs and sideways. Definitely one for the beach this summer!

br /Valentine fleming is a aspiring actress folowing her dream although hope is running out. She's someone everyone can relate to and i love her page turner romance with the lovely Jack Hart. So much happened in this book but it wasnt all squished in. I love how her ex finn losens his grip over her throughout the book and Valentine's friend lily advices her through the ins and outs of love.
br /Great book by Rebecca Farnworth who keeps the mixture of Love,Lust,Freindship and Humour just right!

Valentine by Rebecca Farnworth May 4, 2009 Brighton Belle 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
I knew that Rebecca Farnworth had written all the Katie Price novels, so I expected this, her first book under her own name, to be fast and funny, with some well-drawn female characters. In fact, this book is much more than this. The world of the struggling actress that Valentine inhabits feels true and the characters and relationships in this book are genuinely affecting; comic, sad and tender. There's also lots of sex, calorie counting, a wicked stepmother and possibly the most entertaining trips to the off-licence ever had by an aspiring actress in West London.

br /Valentine Fleming is blessed with green eyes, sensuous lips and talent. But she's cursed with frizzy hair, size 12 curves, and an ordinary family (not helpful, apparently, in the nepotistic bitchfest of the acting world.) Her dad has died recently, she's out of work, broke and has just been dumped by the love of her life. Dumped, what's more, on Valentine's Day (her birthday) just when she thought he was about to leave his thinner, more successful actress, girlfriend in order to marry her. Her mum's worried about her; her lovely, drunken, failed actress auntie is supportive of her career choice, but not exactly the role model she's looking for. Her flatmate Lauren is fantastic and always on Valentine's side, but she graces the pages of Vogue and shags adoring male models in-between auditions.

br /This book is really funny, with much of the humour coming from Valentine's mordant reflections on her lot and Lauren's mustard-sharp responses to the world. The bitchiness and the camaraderie of the acting world are also very well drawn. Rebecca paints a wince-inducing picture of the constant rejection, rivalry and esteem-draining obsession with looks. Valentine, however, is well supported along the way. The plot rockets along, but the introduction of Valentine's neighbours Lily and Frank into her world adds a slower bittersweet secondary story. Ditch Sophie Kinsella and read this.

I wish I had a friend like Valentine Fleming...... May 18, 2009 Prada Girl (London, England) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
or like Lauren or Lily or Frank! When I finished 'Valentine' (after reading it in two big and glorious chunks) I felt as if I was saying goodbye to some new friends whom I'd only just met but who I wanted to be friends with for the rest of my life! I hope Rebecca Farnworth writes a sequel or a prequel or a series with all these characters. Even if you don't fall head-over-heels for these characters this is a great read because its funny, sexy, and truly entertaining. I really can't recommend a better way to banish the credit crunch, looming thoughts of redundancy and the evergrowing tedium of MPs expenses than this book. Fabulous.

This is the perfect accompaniment for your next girls weekend away! I guarantee you will be passing it around between you as you drink your wine, waiting for your chance to immerse yourself in the pacey, sexy and funny world of Valentine and Lauren. The book is very witty and made me smirk all the way at the very human failings and foibles of all the characters, who feel real and credible. The author, maybe through the incredibly well-observed dialogue, has managed to make all the characters well-rounded,(I love Lily and so want a Lily in my life!) so you do actually care about their stories and their outcomes. Write another one Rebecca Farnworth, I have been left bereft!!
