An invaluable companion to all women. March 11, 2001 angelavince1@aol.com (Buckinghamshire, England) 45 out of 45 found this review helpful
This comprehensive book is far more than its title suggests. Apart from going into diet in an in-depth and non-prescriptive way, it also covers all aspects of breast cancer treatments and ways of minimising their side effects.pAn invaluable companion, it is written in a very human tone. It has sustained me through my cancer treatment and set me on a path for the future. I am recommending it unreservedly to all my friends .
A book for all women to read. July 28, 2000 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
Breast Cancer affects many women in the U.K. Figures vary from 1 in 9 to 1 in 11 of all women will develop breast cancer. This book is not just for those of us who have already been diagnosed with the disease but for all women if they wish to protect themselves.Reading this book helped me to understand some of the reasons why I developed breast cancer. I feel therefore that I have some control over this terrifying disease because if I understand what caused it then I can take steps to prevent a recurrence. As a result I have changed my diet considerably and feel better than I have in years. This is a book not just about diet but about lifestyle and the fact that the author has had breast cancer herself adds credence. The book is very well written with lots of research quoted to back up any claims about which foods help in the battle against cancer and which environmental factors may be the cause.
An inspiration March 27, 2000 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 32 - a statistic that isn't supposed to happen. However, this book has been my inspiration to fight and hopefully overcome this disease, for myself and for my family and especially my two young children. I have subsequently changed my diet considerably, following ideas in the book and at present I am getting through my chemotherapy much better than I imagined. Its a must for all woman who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Extremely positive and concise, enabling a degree of control March 8, 2000 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
I am 33 and have just had a breast cancer removed. Although my age group is of a minority for this kind of disease, Suzannah Olivier, who was a similar age when she discovered her lump, made me feel that I was not a minimal statistic. The book is not only informative about the disease and treatments pertaining to same, but gives a lot of information about the foodtypes ones should be consuming to not only prevent cancer, but keep the body strong during treatment. This information, in particular, gives a woman the opportunity to take a degree of control at this ridiculous time, and to understand more than she would were she left only to discuss matters with hospital consultants. I thoroughly recommend this book to any woman and in particular, to those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. There is hope out there!
A bible for people wanting to help themselves through cancer treatment April 2, 2008 Rachel (Harrogate, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been treated for breast cancer for 8 months now and am just about to have my radiotherapy. This was one of several books I bought when I was diagnosed and it is the only one I have returned to again and again throughout each stage of my treatment. What I have found particularly helpful has been the advice to help support your body through the treatment. I am quite sure that I have coped with the chemo and the surgery much better as a result of the tips on supporting your immune system and coping with the side effects. I would highly recommend it
