5 out of 5 stars paris hilton life on the edge   June 26, 2009

After searching for an honest, well-written book on paris, (of whom i am a fan!) i found this book. Easy-reading, perfect for the summer holiday! great for the beach. Portrays Paris in a positive life for a change! blows away many false rumours and shows the warmth of Hilton. br / br /I have read several of Chas Newkey-Burden books which I have found great fun to read, well-researched and would defo recommend!

5 out of 5 stars Well...   August 14, 2008

Whether or not the author writes his own reviews on here is of no interest to me as I enjoy reading the books of Newkey-Burden. br / br /For an alternative look at Paris Hilton, full of wit and analysis of celebrity culture, you needn't look any further. br / br /No doubt someone will jump on here saying I am the author or some such, which smacks a little bit of pot, kettle, black, if you ask me.

5 out of 5 stars A welcome antidote to the lies and spite!   February 1, 2009

I found this book to be a welcome antidote to much of the lies and hateful spite usually directed at Paris. For the most part it shows Paris off to good effect. Fans and those who have actually bothered to do some research have seen that Paris is a very warm, sweet and smart person who lives off her own money, does give to charity, doesn't look down on other people and isn't afraid to send herself up, try new things and won't let jealous haters dictate her lifestyle for her. So much of what is written in this book are things that I wish more of the haters would pay attention to. br / br /It's not a perfect book. Sometimes I'd like more focus spent on certain subjects and other times there's too many pages spent than are necessary (the first episode of The Simple Life gets a detailed scene by scene summary while the other seasons only get a couple of pages overall). Sometimes the book wastes pages on things like celebrity lookalikes too. For the most part, if you're a Paris fan or want a more honest portrayal than you'll usually get from rabid haters and a biased media, then this book is a fun enough read (and this kind of coverage is well overdue for Paris and her fans). If you're a hater then sorry, but you won't like the fact that there's plenty of nice things to be said about Paris that don't get said often enough and the book is not for you - nor should it be! There's much more to Paris than most people know or are willing to acknowledge and the more coverage like this, the better!

1 out of 5 stars Blatant self-promotion (by the author)   July 11, 2008

The author of this book Chas Newkey-Burden, using a dummy ID, likes to review his own books here on Amazon - invariably giving them all 5 stars and a hearty recommendation of course! The 'review' you are reading now will soon disappear on the grounds that it is defamatory to the author; but how can the truth be defamatory? br / br /According to Private Eye (among other sources) several reviews of books written by the author Chas Newkey-Burden, were posted by the same person (Chas Newkey-Burden) using a number of dummy Amazon IDs. I saw the evidence with my own eyes, as did thousands of others. He has been proven to adopt similar tactics for 'reviewing' his own books here. Funny, embarrassing and sad. br / br /The proof was evident for all to see when on the profile of an Amazon user called 'reader' (until recently 'read all about it') the REAL name of that user was shown to be Chas Newkey-Burden. He quickly removed that information from the profile page as soon as word escaped! This isn't just a wild allegation from a mad anti-fan, it's a fact and a matter of public record. br / br /No doubt this allegation will be deleted yet again, as Chas Newkey-Burden is desperate to minimise his public humiliation. He will ask Amazon to delete it - but it will be posted again!
