| Customer Reviews: One of two favorite Diana biographies March 24, 2008 SusieQ (New York) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The other is: Sarah Bradford's biography of Diana. (I also liked Ken Wharfe's memoir very much.)

br /Ms. Bedell-Smith digs deep and sometimes unsympathetically into the life of Diana, Princess of Wales. However, I think for the most part she is objective about Diana, not objectionable -- in other words, she tells Diana's story as it was, not as we might WISH it was. Diana had her bad points. She was self-absorbed at times; manipulative; involved her boys a little too much into her personal problems; impulsive. In some ways she hurt the Royal family, yet she also breathed new life into the old institution.

br /Ms. Bedell-Smith is also right on target about Diana's relationship with Dodi Fayed. It was a terrible step backward for her, and quite simply, her actions all during the month of August 1997 (with hindsight) clearly point to her confusion and unhappiness, instead of joy and confidence.

Very good book July 23, 2009 hamptoncherry (London) This is the best book about princess Diana available today - and I have read a lot of them. It is very balanced, well written and believable. It doesn't take sides but offers deep and engaging review of facts and events. Sally Bedell-Smith is brilliant. As Newsweek put it:"If you are going to read one Diana book, this should be it" and I totally agree.
A really good read, I think this is a well researched book. October 1, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Of all the Diana books I have read this one stands out to me as giving an insight into her life. I can remember many of the public incidents quoted in the book but the author has given me a new perspective ...
unreasonable viewpoint of the late Princess's character October 13, 1999 Sally Bedell Smith paints a picture of Diana that sounds implausible. Diana suffered with emotional problems but did she merit the dustbin diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder? There is no supportive evidence to suggest that she suffered this disorder. The blame for the tragedy surrounding the royal marriage is heaped upon the Princess with no criticism of Prine Charles and his behaviour. The viewpoint is that of a neurotic female who singlehandedly caused every problem suffered by the Royal family. A biased look at a troubled woman without reference to the other personalities involved
