A long time coming but its worth the wait October 2, 2009 Brian V. Burford (UK) 36 out of 36 found this review helpful
When BBC Radio Five Live first began Sybil Roscoe had Ozzy Osbourne on her programme as a guest. God knows how many years ago that was, but Ozzy said then that he was going to bring out an autobiography and call it John. Well it's here now, at last, and it's worth the wait.

br /I first encountered Ozzy during my early days of rock education through the pages of Kerrang! I'd heard of Ozzy and Black Sabbath, but wasn't too familiar with Ozzy the solo star. He had the cover and was dressed as a werewolf. Inside all the pictures was of him as a werewolf and I began to wonder if this man actually looked like a werewolf! Of course, I soon realised it was a video for Bark At the Moon. Subsequently I bought that album and saw him on tour and have been a fan ever since.
br /
br /What I always liked about Ozzy is that he has never forgotten his roots. He's not arrogant and never comes across as big-headed. This comes over in his book which is written just the way you know and love Ozzy to be. It has his colourful delivery, wonderful descriptions of his adventures; all the famous ones and some you never heard of - the only gripe is the cover, which is a bit bland.
br /
br /I Am Ozzy will have you laughing at his outrageous adventures, but also have you cringing too. There is sadness at the death of Randy Rhoads and how the Nazis nearly killed him - you'll have to read it to work that one out - and the controversial mishaps that he's had will also have you smiling.
br /
br /There isn't much more to say except that if you're an Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath fan this book is a must buy. But even if you're not, you're still going to enjoy it because it's the story of a guy from Aston, Birmingham, who made it big and as he has said many times before, is the luckiest guy in the world. The difference is that he knows it and had made the best of his talents and abilities.
What a life October 2, 2009 S. Chipchase 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
I literally could not put this book down from the moment I picked it up at 6pm until I finished reading it at 1am.
br /
br /From the opening page right up until the acknowledgments I was engrossed, entertained and enlightened.
br /
br /I've laughed out loud, i've smiled to myself, i've looked at the page in open mouthed shock and have gone through such a rollercoaster of emotions during the seven hours of reading its amazing.
br /
br /Very rarely in my experience does a book take you on such a journey as this one does. High, lows, ups, downs it's all here told in brutal unflinching honesty.
br /
br /What more could anyone want from a book?
br /
br /I for one could ask for nothing more
very amusing read! October 30, 2009 Mr. E. G. Smith (Bridport, England) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
You don't have to be a fan of Ozzy, but it does help. A very open and amusing read.
Ozzy: The real deal November 3, 2009 S. R. George (Nantwich, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ozzy, along with Lemmy of Motorhead/Hawkwind fame, is the rarest of creatures. He has survived against the steepest odds, and has the wit and integrity to deserve our respect, and even reverence. Cherish him while you still can. I saw him with Sabbath in the 70's, and on the early solo tours. Up there with the Beatles and the Stones. Top Geezer - oh yes! Him too. Forget the TV years. This man is the real deal.
Only One Ozzy November 3, 2009 Pete A 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am proud to say that I was an Ozzy fan many years before he burst onto our MTV screens. So I appreciated his music long before The Osbournes. What I like about Ozzy is not only did his music (solo and Black Sabbath) define heavy metal he is also a very honest, passionate man. I have waited a long time for his autobiography but it has definately been worth the wait. The thing with Ozzy is that he doesn't try to be something he's not and he doesn't try to cover any of his previous actions up. What I mean to say is that some rock stars would try to cover up the fact that they had tried to strangle their wife, had hit their wife, taken all the illegal drugs they could possibly get their hands on or drunk enough alcohol to sink a navy ship, but Ozzy doesn't. In fact he does the opposite, he goes into great detail of how all these events occurred. Yes he has done some horrendous things in his life, but in this book he admits to all of them and doesn't spare any details. He also possesses an extremely emotional streak when talking about the death of his parents.
br /If you have liked Ozzy since his early days you will find this an extremely entertaining account of his rock n roll life. Even if you aren't a fan it will prove to be a very entertaining, funny account of one of the world's greatest rockstar's!
