5 out of 5 stars Loved this!   October 9, 2009

I really enjoyed this book, as I do most of Beverly Barton's books - she's one of my favourite authors. The murder story was good but I won't give anything away. The suspects narrowed down towards the end of the book so you could guess it would be one of about 3 people. I thought the characters were perceived really well and there were several interesting storylines going on with the different characters. Griffin Powell does feature in this book along with his wife Nic, however that part of the story does not really develop and finish, although there will probably be another follow on book from this with many of the same characters. Overall though a really good read - if you like Beverly Barton or P.J Tracy, you'll love this!

I picked up this book because it said Beverly Barton is a 'New York times Bestseller'. This must be a missprint. I'm all up for reading a 'trash' novel, but this was bad. Ridiculously unbelievable characters and story lines (a women scorned / mistrusted by her family for having a nervous breakdown after the murder of her husband?) Come on. This was like a bad made for tv 80's american 2 part drama. There are writers of this genre who do a much much better job. Don't waste your time on this pap

1 out of 5 stars More like Mills and Boon   November 10, 2009

The cover of this book is deceiving. "prey for mercy" "shocking and terrifying" "will chill you to the bone" What rubbish, It is a Mills and Boon style love story. and oh, there is a background serial killer. I never ever leave a book half read but I have to stop waisting my time on this one. She cannot make her mind up whether it is a love story or a thriller. Thriller it is not. You cannot mix the two to this extent. One disturbing paragraph in the book is a description of child rape. We don't need to know the details Beverley. only that it happened. This was in bad taste. I think the author should decide what type of books she wants to write. Carol B br / br /
