MotoGP Valencia - Dani Pedrosa pips Valentino Rossi to the chequered flag
Dani Pedrosa
Dani Pedrosa in front of a home crowd won the final MotoGP of the season in Valencia.
World champion Valentino Rossi came home in second, as Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo took third place.
Pole sitter Casey Stoner, ironically missed the race when a cold tyre caused him to crash his Ducati in the warm-up lap breaking his windscreen.
This meant Jorge Lorenzo had no challenge to his second spot in the standings behind Rossi and Dani Pedrosa finishing the season in third place.
With Stoner out of contention from the start, the two Yamaha's of Rossi and Lorenzo fought for the lead in the early stages until Lorenzo suffered from a tough break. Lorenzo's Yamaha went into a bad wobble and though he kept control of the bike the violent movements triggered the airbag in his suit, which then took a full lap to deflate, losing him valuable time.
James Toseland in his fanal MotoGP race befor returning to World Superbikes finished 12th for the Yamaha Tech 3 team. The Brit rider told the press he leaves with his head held high.
