Benteke makes Eagles goals pledge

Christian Benteke fired home a hat-trick for Belgium and hopes to continue his goalscoring form for Crystal Palace on his return.

Benteke set a record for the fastest ever goal in a World Cup qualifier when he grabbed the opener in the 6-0 win over Gibraltar after just seven seconds.

The Eagles' record signing went on to fire home two more in the rout and although he admits the opposition were inferior, he is just happy to be among the goals.

Palace return to action when they entertain West Ham United on Saturday and Benteke will look to continue his form against the Hammers.

"It would have been a little different if I had scored a hat-trick against a big team," Benteke said. "But I will not spit in the soup. I'll take the hat-trick. I'll try to prolong my current form and continue it with my club.

"I do not think I'm the hero of the game. The most important thing was to have fun.

"My first goal? The goal was to hurry up for the first 20 minutes. The defender anticipates wrong, I passed him and I do not ask questions.

"I feel good in recent weeks. I want to keep moving forward."
