Coates backs under-fire boss

Stoke chairman Peter Coates says under-fire boss Mark Hughes has his full support despite their struggles this season.

The Potters remain at the foot of the Premier League table after conceding another four goals in a 4-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday, and the pressure is starting to mount on Hughes.

However Coates is well aware that Stoke have only played five Premier League games, and is willing to give Hughes and his staff time to turn things around.

The Stoke chief says there is no need for emergency talks with his manager and is not reaching for the panic button just yet.

"He's our manager and he's got our support. We've played five games," Coates said. "He's been around the block. We've finished ninth three times and that tells you he's got experience.

"He's been a manager for some time and he's got two experienced coaches (Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki) alongside him."

Stoke return to action on Wednesday night in the League Cup tie against Hull City, before former boss Tony Pulis brings his West Brom side to the bet365 Stadium this weekend.
