Adam Johnson has revealed that he is keen to push his England career forward after scoring his first international goal on Friday night against Bulgaria.

England played their first competitive fixture since their disappointing World Cup campaign as the Euro 2012 qualifiers got underway. And it was a good 4-0 win for England.

The Manchester City man admits that he was disappointed at being left out of Fabio Capello's squad for South Africa but described his first goal as a 'massive moment' in his career.

Speaking to Sky Sports he said: "Scoring my first goal was just a massive moment for me. It's obviously put the game to bed (at 3-0) which was another good thing.

"But I have to keep going and I can't just settle on my laurels because I've scored one goal for England. I want to push on and get as many caps as I can.

"My family, not just my mates, will keep my feet on the ground. Everyone has always been like that around me but I think I will know myself if I get too carried away or anything like that."

It was a confidence boosting performance from England as Jermaine Defoe got his first international hat-trick and their was a good performance at the other end of the field as Joe hart showed why he is Capello's number one.

England have now travelled to Switzerland for their second group match tomorrow night, Wales and Montenegro make up Group C.
