Alex Ferguson admitted that he was pleased with his side's performance against Bursaspor last night but would have liked to see more that a 1-0 margin.

It was Nani who was on hand to give United the lead after just seven minutes as the manager, the players and the fans forgot about the Wayne Rooney saga for ninety minutes.

It was a great solo effort from the Portuguese international as he found the back of the net with his twenty yard curling shot after coming in from the right.

It may not have been an inspiring win from the Reds but the 1-0 victory sees them in control of Group C as they top it with seven points, rangers are just behind on five.

And Vidic could have doubled the lead before half time when he headed a corner wide and a chance to put daylight between them and their opponents was gone.

Speaking to SkySports after the match Ferguson said: "We could have pushed on better.

"I think we did well in the sense that we kept the intensity of our game right and we controlled the whole match, I think they had one shot with about two minutes to go.

"We can take credit from that because they worked really hard, the players. But we could have done better with the last third play.

"I didn't think they could possibly score because defensively our concentration was good. All the parts of the team were good, just the final part we could have done better."

But the manager had nothing but praise for Nani and insists that the player can improve his game over the coming years, could he be the man to replace Rooney?

"He can get better, that's the great thing. He's adding a goal ratio to his game, which is important. He's done great, he's got courage, he's quick and he wants to play and train.

"A lot of things are coming together for the lad and I'm pleased with that."
