Alex Ferguson has revealed that he was happy with Manchester United's performance during the Community Shield yesterday and claims that he squad are hungry for success.

Manchester United faced Chelsea at Wembley yesterday for the Community Shield as the Reds ran out a convincing 3-1 win over the London side.

United missed out on the Premier League and FA Cup last season as Chelsea did the domestic double and Ferguson is keen to bring more silverware to Old Trafford this season.

Speaking to The Sun, Ferguson said: "My players are hungry, I think you've seen that today. Some of our football was very good at times, we created chances and we deserved to win.

"The foundation of the team is the experienced players like Vidic, Scholes and Giggs and they can help the rest.

"When you don't win the title, you must do it the next year. That's the great thing about football, you've always got the next year."

It was a dominating performance from Manchester United yesterday as they inflicted the first defeat over their main rivals of the 2010/11 season.

Despite United enjoying much of the possession in the opening half they had to wait until the forty first minute to break the deadlock when Antonio Valencia found the back of the net, after being set up by Wayne Rooney.

Javier Hernandez got his first goal in an United shirt as he scored in the seventy sixth minute after coming on as a half time substitute.

Kalou did pull one goal back in the eighty third minute but Berbatov but the win beyond doubt just before full time to wrap up a 3-1 win.

Manchester United get their season underway next Monday against Newcastle at home while Chelsea also have a home fixture against West Brom.
