Sir Alex Ferguson as praised the contribution of Paul Scholes in Manchester United 3-0 win over newly promoted Newcastle United last night.
It was an opening fixture at home for Manchester United as they look to wrestle the Premier League title back of Chelsea this season and the faced an old foe in the form of Newcastle.
But the night belonged to Scholes as he provided assits for the first and third goals as United cruised to a 3-0 opening victory.
Speaking to the BBC Alex Ferguson said: "He's got a marvelous passing range and vision. Anyone who gets to that age and retains that appetite is blessed with something special.
The game always needs players like that. There are still a lot of good players in the game and tonight Scholes produced."
While it was a comfortable victory in the end it took United over half an hour to finally break the deadlock, the best chance before that falling to Newcastle as Andy Carroll sent a header wide from inside the box.
As the first half moved into the final quarter of an hour Manchester United picked up the pace and were rewarded in the thirty third minute when Dimitar Berbatov found the back of the net for the second time in as many games.
Just before half time United doubled their lead as Darren Fletcher after he picked up a ball from Wayne Rooney before turning past Fabricio Coloccini before firing the ball home.
There should have been a third before half time as Paul Scholes was left to run riot and his ball to Rooney then found Berbatov but he was unable to score a second time.
Rooney, who still isn't back to his best, was replaced at half time as new signing Javier Hernandez took to the field.
In the second there were efforts from Nani and another from Berbatov, once again supplied by Scholes, before Ryan Giggs, after picking up a pass from Scholes got United's third.
