Manchester United midfielder Anderson has today signed a new four-and-a-half year contract with the club.

Anderson has impressed in recent games since returning to the team from a cruciate ligament injury that ruled him out for most of last season.

His goal against Valencia in the Champions League last week proved decisive in their passage through to the knockout phase, and he started the game against Arsenal on Monday.

Manager, Sir Alez Ferguson told ManUtd.com: "We are delighted he has signed a new contract, Anderson has developed tremendously since joining us and he has fantastic potential at only 22; he is going to be a really top player."

The player himself said: "This is the best club to be at and I would like to thank everyone for the great support I have received over the years.

"I am looking forward to winning many more trophies with United and I am so pleased to have signed a new contract."

Anderson has had a tough rehabilitation period over the past year, notably being involved in a serious car accident as well.

But the player who won the Premier League with United in 2008 and 2009, hopes that the new deal will see him become a big part of the United first team.
