Arsene Wenger has revealed that he was excited by what he saw in Arsenal's midfield last night as Cesc Fabregas teamed up with Jack Wilshere.
The Gunners were in Champions League action as they closed in on a place in the knock out stages of the competition with a comprehensive 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk at the Emirates.
It was the first time that the pair had played together in over four weeks after Fabregas was side-lined with a hamstring injury, returning to action for the first time last night.
But the pair found themselves both on the score sheet as they combined well to tear apart the Shakhtar Donestsk defence.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match Wenger said: "I am convinced it works well together.
"Cesc just came back tonight, but Jack has a good maturity level. You never think he is 18 when plays and overall they combined very well."
It took nineteen minutes for arsenal to open the scoring as Song found the back of the net, after keeper Pyatov let a catch slip, from a Nasri corner.
Shakhtar finally settled into the game after what was a nervy start but just before half time arsenal doubled their lead as Song provided a cross from Nasri who beat the keeper to make it 2-0.
When the match hit the hour mark the floodgates opened as arsenal found the back of the net three times in nine minutes to give them a commanding 5-0 lead.
The first game on the sixty minute mark as Fabregas stepped up to the penalty spot after Djourou was brought down by Adriano. Just three minutes later Fabregas was brought off and replaced by Denilson.
After some lovely passing between Wilshere and Rosicky it as the eighteen year old's turn to get on the score sheet as his strike beat the keeper on sixty six minutes.
Three minutes later and Arsenal's dominance was complete when Chamakh picked up a pass from Nasri to make it five, and the match was over.
Eduardo did get a consolation goal in the eight second minute but the London side were always in control and now top the group with nine points and will travel to Donetsk in November.
